I have a Y splitter for my laptop. When I connect it to the headphone jack, audio doesn’t come out from the built-in speakers even when selecting them as the audio output, and the external microphone I connect to it doesn’t get recognized (confirmed it using pavucontrol). It works properly on windows (I’m dual booting), and in my previous laptop the microphone worked correctly in both Garuda and WIndows (can’t confirm for its built-in speakers, I had it connected to a HDMI TV because my screen got fried). Pavucontrol shows that the speakers outputs audio but is not coming from it. I’m using pipewire.

Your headphone jack cuts out the internal speaker on every laptop that I have ever used. That’s by design, headphones are a different impedance / Ohms than speakers. It’s can’t put out both. now you could hook up external powered speakers and headphones by using the y adapter with HP and speakers plugged into it, but not recommended. I think the laptop jack has sensing in it or built in circuit that detects whether it;'s low or high impedance. Desktops usually have line out, and sometimes headphone and or line on the case.
