Xfce Terminal problem after installing Ptyxis Terminal

I was very curious about the Ptyxis terminal so I installed it to give it a try.

I am very impressed with it, but it has created a problem. When I open Thunar and select ‘Open terminal here’ it simply opens a terminal here…

 ╭─colin@Garuda in ~
 ╰─λ

…not in the folder being shown by Thunar.

Also, if I select ‘Open in root terminal here’ I am asked for the password, and when I enter it nothing happens.

I have selected Ptyxis as the default terminal in ‘Default applications’ to no avail, and I spent two hours last night digging through forums for an answer, also to no avail.

Does anyone know a simple way to get Ptyxis to open in the correct location when it is opened via Thunar?

I ended up throwing the towel in with Ptyxis. I uninstalled it and returned to the Xfce terminal, but this also decided it wasn’t going to work when started via Thunar.

Photo of me when I found out:
:face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Anyway, after a bit of messing with ‘Thunar > Edit > Configure custom actions’ I modified ‘Open terminal here’ to ‘exo-open --working-directory %f --launch TerminalEmulator’.

This got the non-root terminal to appear.

Now I had to get ‘Open a root terminal here’ to work. It took another couple of hours digging until I came across this.

I replaced the original command with ‘pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY dbus-launch thunar %f’.

I then gave it a try and it worked.

Needless to say I won’t be changing terminals again in a hurry.

I have added the Garuda fastfetch into to the root terminal and coloured it red to differentiate it from the non-root terminal.

Here’s a screenshot:

If you have a problem getting the Xfce terminal to work correctly with Thunar the above will hopefully be of help to you.
