X11, Wayland stops working after garuda-update

What troubleshooting steps should I do to appropriately get help on this one.
Do I just post results of garuda-inxi ?
I have checked and sddm is running fine when doing systemctl status sddm

My issue is the console windows fine its just when it tries to go to sddm the monitor goes into standby mode and I am not sure the process to test each component and rely on snapshots to say get to this forum. This has only started in the last week. Guessing it has something to do with that optimus-manage.service but not sure what to do next.

Welcome to garuda

Can you provide your
garuda-inxi

Are you running garuda on a laptop?

I will do a before and after garuda-inxi when I can. I am using a desktop but it is one of those chinese tiny pc so it is basically a laptop / intergrated nvidia gtx 1650 and intel graphics so i use optimus.

Thankyou will post when I can.

Restore last working snapshot.
Dos not work?
Use live ISO, chroot, update your system again.
Dos not work?
Wait some days and try again.

I can go back to a working snapshot just trying to fix the problem as I keep trying each day and it does not fix up since 24th. Just trying to learn what is going wrong as network and console work just something to do with X

Cheers

It is more than likely your nvidia card, there have been a lot of trouble with them.

When you do a fresh install do not use nvidia drivers but open source.

Install Garuda on your Hard Drive

Run first update and now install nvidia drivers when asked
watch your terminal when the DKMS modules are being compiled, to see if they throw up an error. If it does DO NOT REBOOT!

But select the linux lts kernel to go along with your zen kernel, and again watch when the DKMS modules are being compiled, watching for errors. If you get no error then you can reboot into the lts kernel. You can use Garuda boot options to select it in your grub menu as default boot device.

However if this does not work either try the following method

refresh the available kernels and install the linux-rt-lts kenel. It is theoldest in the nvidia driver version available, and may work if the others did not.

If this does not work you can try and install open source DKMS by opening a terminal and executing the follow lines of code. (Again watch the modules compile and see if this fixes the issues.)

sudo pacman -Sy nvidia-open-dkms egl-wayland lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia nvidia-settings opencl-nvidia nvidia-utils

sudo garuda-update remote fix

If none of the above works there is one final option that has rescued me often, and that is down loading the nvidia-all drivers from git. This way you can try and trying different versions in one setting, to see which one might work, starting with the latest going down.
(This option is not recommended by the developers, for the drivers will not get update by Garuda’s update, but needs to be done manually. However if all else fails this might work, it has always for me. i will also give you the command line to undo the nvidia-all installation drivers and restore your machine to default drivers, if need be.)

#download and install nvidia-all drivers
git clone https://github.com/Frogging-Family/nvidia-all.git
cd nvidia-all
makepkg -si
sudo garuda-update remote fix

#reinstall nvidia to default settings.
sudo pacman -Rdd lib32-nvidia-utils-tkg lib32-opencl-nvidia-tkg nvidia-dkms-tkg nvidia-egl-wayland-tkg nvidia-settings-tkg nvidia-utils-tkg opencl-nvidia-tkg

i hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice and will give it a go but do not want to do a fresh reinstall as I have been using this install without errors for years just lately it has the issues so will try reinstalling the nvidia drivers shortly after doing the garuda-update that breaks it.

Cheers mate

Try removing the optimus manager:

Unfortunately no dice trying the next idea with the prime-config package. Thanks though.
