Won't Wake After Suspend

Hello everyone,

My Garuda Linux desktop has been working great for several months.

However, today the system decided that it will no longer wake up after being put into suspend mode. This forces me to restart the device.

Boot is also much slower than it used to be: hangs on the zen kernel part. Related?

I have tried full system update / upgrade already using “garuda-update”. Same issues.

An internet search turned up folks having this issue with Nvidia graphics. Not my issue: GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT

Motherboard is Rog Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II. It looks like a “beta version” of the latest BIOS was released by Asus two weeks ago on 24th September 2025. Could this be the issue? Should I be nervous about installing the latest BIOS since it is “beta”?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • ONE issue per topic.

  • Show us the results of your searches, and what you’ve tried
  • After rebooting, post the FULL output of garuda-inxi in the body of the post (not linked externally, or collapsed with the “hide details” feature)
  • Format terminal output (including your garuda-inxi) as a code block by clicking the preformatted text button (</>) , or put three tildes (~) above and below the text

Without garuda-inxi this request will be moved to 4xx Client Error > 412 Precondition Failed

Hi there @TeacherUsingGaruda.

As @SGS already mentioned, be sure to post the terminal output of garuda-inxi, so that others are able to help you more effectively.

I the mean time I would suggest testing the LTS kernel to see if the switch improves matters.

Reboot.

Did you change anything, install anything, or perform a system update beforehand?
Do you still have the problems when you load a snapshot from before the issue occurred?

Have you tried this?

Maybe, maybe not. We need a journal from such a boot.

The beta version of the BIOS (3634-2025/09/24) is not installed:

Thank you for your help.

I just tested the LTS kernel. Same issue as with Zen: will not wake from suspend.

Note: when I wiggle the mouse to attempt to wake up the screen displays the error code “no signal” instead of waking up the machine. Maybe the graphics card driver is the issue?

Will try the other suggestions later today.

Thanks again.

These AMD diagnostic tools may prove helpful:

Test your suspend status with amd_s2idle.py

The above script is now part of the amd-debug-tools Arch Linux package, see the link below:

amd-debug-tools

The amd-debug-tools package can be installed with the following command:

pacman -Sy amd-debug-tools

I am not familiar with these diagnostic tools, but I have seen them recommended for use with AMD Zen systems experiencing suspend (or other) issues.

Each tool has its own individual documentation page:

Not the issue but pls make a bios update.

I advise against installing the beta BIOS without good reason. Besides, it’s the wrong board and the wrong BIOS:

Compare the size and the SHA-256. The latest non-beta version (3621) is already installed.

Soory, my mistake..the wifi version, of course.
Question, why not beta ?
1. Updated AGESA version to ComboV2 PI 1.2.0.F.
2. Implemented security updates.
and the stuff for better gaming support. (what ever that mean)

In my opinion, we should start troubleshooting where the issue originally began, while maintaining the initial situation. Excerpts from pacman.log at the time in question would be helpful. As long as it remains unclear what is causing the problems, I would try installing the beta BIOS as a last resort if everything else fails. But that’s just my personal opinion.

Asus seems to have a habit of only providing a beta version for the latest BIOS release for some boards. For example, the latest version for my board, TUF B450 Plus Gaming, is 4622 Beta and it’s from 11/29/2024.

Thanks tbg. I installed amd-debug-tools. I will test that next.

I wish I could answer this. I was super busy these past couple of weeks and was not able to remember or pinpoint when it started happening.

Hey, Teach, I ran into the same problem, and I have the RX 5700 XT. Have to shut off the PC after sleeping. So, out of curiosity, I decided to conduct a little maintenance. Click on Garuda Welcome, click on Garuda Assistance. On the maintenance tab, I clicked on all except “remove database lock” and “edit repositories”. It’s been 2 months and all has been good so far. At first, I thought it was either my video card or memory. Good luck!
