Wifi speeds are horrid on my usb wifi adapter after a year of no problems

Many USB 3 wifi adapters actually perform better on a USB 2 port, so be sure to test out a a USB 2 port at the rear of your computer. A short USB extension cable is usually required if utilizing one of the rear ports on your computer.

It would also be worth testing to see if disabling WiFi power saving helps improve your speeds.

Also test disabling MAC address randomization.

You could also test the linux-firmware-git package out. Be sure to reboot after making any change to the firmware.
