Wifi speeds are horrid on my usb wifi adapter after a year of no problems

I have this wifi adapter Amazon.com: EDUP USB 3.0 WiFi 6E Adapter for PC, AXE3000, Mt7921au, 802.11ax, Tri-Band 6GHz/5GHz/2.4GHz, USB Wi-Fi Dongle Wireless Network Card, Support Windows 11/10 (Install Driver) & Linux (Plug and Play) : Electronics and it has worked for me for a year or so perfectly with good speed but after trying everything under the sun to fix this weird drop in speed i may have a made it worse than it was so any help would be appreciated. ive changed kernels ive updated a million times im kinda lost at this point and would love some help. Thank you! ^-^

Is your USB Wifi dongle connected directly to your computer, or is it connected via a USB hub or USB extension cable?

Try connecting directly to the computer USB ports.

Test out different USB ports, making sure to test out any USB 2 ports available.

When did this slow down start?

Did you try rolling back your system when the problem began?

Was the linux-firmware package updated around the time your issue began?

Please provide full and complete feedback to what I have posted.

its pluged in directly to the mother board in the fasted usb port i have

it started a bit ago longer ago than several updates ago

The problem has been going on too long for me to roll back now without looseing a bunch

its started maybe 2 or so months ago

no i have had issues before and after firmware updates i may have installed a firmware or something that proke it or something else im not sure as its beena long time

Many USB 3 wifi adapters actually perform better on a USB 2 port, so be sure to test out a a USB 2 port at the rear of your computer. A short USB extension cable is usually required if utilizing one of the rear ports on your computer.

It would also be worth testing to see if disabling WiFi power saving helps improve your speeds.

Also test disabling MAC address randomization.

You could also test the linux-firmware-git package out. Be sure to reboot after making any change to the firmware.

Edit:

Be sure to read this post on how to test older firmware versions:

i already have power save off and have tried both of those things.

would wiping all installed firmware and just using kernel drivers work and how would i go about that?

No, that will not help. Both the in-kernel driver and the correct firmware are required for proper operation.

I see you marked my last post as the solution. For others benefit could you please be more specific on what exactly fixed your issue.

I’m glad something helped. :+1:
