Which one would be more likely to have a working wifi :

Tldr: I did not buy a gaming laptop last yr as I was sure that Nvidia would be troublesome to deal with under Linux.

I found some models that seem to be available for sale all year in our town, without Nvidia. They contain AMD 7/8 thousand series CPUs ( do these work under this Linux?) and some wifi cards that I didn’t find anything about:

The first model I found is this :

Laptop LENOVO IdeaPad Slim 5 16AHP9, AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS pana la 5.1GHz, 16" 2K, 32GB, 1TB, AMD Radeon Graphics, FreeDOS, Cloud Grey

It has this possible wifi cards( as written in the description of the website in the drivers page):

Realtek_8852BE

Realtek_8852CE

Mediatek_24.34.2.570( idk what wifi card is this, but this is the driver for it)

I could also get this :

Laptop 2 in 1 LENOVO Yoga 7 14AHP9, AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS pana la 5.1GHz, 14" WUXGA Touch, 16GB, 1TB, AMD Radeon, Windows 11 Home, Arctic Grey

https://altex.ro/laptop-2-in-1-lenovo-yoga-7-14ahp9-amd-ryzen-7-8840hs-pana-la-5-1ghz-14-wuxga-touch-16gb-1tb-amd-radeon-windows-11-home-arctic-grey/cpd/LAP83DK002NRM/

With this wifi card :

8852CE

Does anyone know if these CPUs and wifi cards work well with this Linux? From what I read they were troublesome under Ubuntu since some needed manual intervention ( as in installing drivers by hand)

Maybe you can find someone to do it for you, until then use whoogle.

I kinda found out that the wifi is similar to this laptop

If green means working I guess I’m good since … It’s about to have the same wifi module combinations

@anyone : Is there a chance of the user charging the wifi card and posting the results on that link ?

Ah, so you mean, if I were to find the laptop model here it means that EVERYTHING about the laptop works on Linux, wifi too ?

This site doesn’t list any of the laptops , maybe cuz they’re new

Personally I don’t think either of the Mediatek or Realtek Wifi 6 adapters are currently good choices for Linux. If I was looking for a Lenovo laptop with good Wifi support I would look for an older used Lenovo model with Intel Wifi. Better cost factor and far better Linux support.

Besides, there’s really no way anyone could give you solid recommendations with the scant information you provided. Without the exact model/chip number of the Wifi included in your prospective laptop choices above, there’s no way someone could give you an informed opinion.
