What sort of operating system is this?

Three years plus

Garuda (2.8.3-2):
  System install date: 2022-08-27

and not once has it….

  1. Rearranged my i3bar
  2. Changed any of my keyboard shortcuts
  3. Changed or rearranged my application launcher (rofi)
  4. Popped up ads to play Candy Crush Soda Saga (maybe it does in the Gaming flavours?)
  5. Changed my wallpaper, screensaver or anything for that matter.
  6. Taken 20 minutes to reboot multiple times to install updates.
  7. Forced some silly AI Assistant on me.
  8. Told me to use their browser because its better than chrome, firefox, etc (their browser is actually pretty good, so maybe they don’t need to beg?)
  9. Changed all my default apps to theirs.
  10. Not allow me to upgrade because my PC does not have the “latest hardware”.
  11. Installed Stuff I Don’t Want; Don’t Need; or Will Ever Use.

Thank you, Linux; Thank you Garuda. You haven’t heard from me for a while because your Distro Just Works.

Oh goody goody a game of 20 questions. WELL in this case 11. I’m Guessing the question is “What operating system has the nerve to do all of the above?”. I’m going to guess WinBlows.

Very true. But I’ll confirm to you there are no ads in the gaming edition that I have. It’s as peaceful as what you have installed. I was wondering why it was not in existence 10 yrs ago. It’s the only OS that doesn’t unlock a problem into a side quests of sub-problems in a fibrous fashion (two distros I tried actually did this to me & it felt like my brains cells were being plucked out of place one after the other leaving me with nothing to use for thinking).

This one allows you to actually concentrate on time-bound projects with a peace of mind & I’m just as glad I found it. Very thankful too that we have a serious team in here (Garuda)

I’ve been using our distribution of choice for several years, I no longer recall how many now, and my experience is similar to yours. I’ve encountered a few issues, and asked for help here, and I always received a quick, understandable, and useful response. Most of the issues I’ve encountered have been caused by me doing something very stupid or through inattention to what I was doing.

I dual-boot Garuda KDE-Lite with Microsoft Windows 11 24H2 because I like their new OS, but that may change as I’ve noticed that Microsoft has been tending to gravitate toward the dark side again. If this trend continues, I’ll lose patience with them and eradicate them from my three computers and become a GNU/Linux-only user which is who I probably should have been all along.
