What have I gotten myself into!?

Hey gang. Brand new Linux user. I've been distro hopping for a few weeks, and stumbled upon this amazing looking distro.

So far things have been working pretty nicely OOTB on most distros, except KDE. There seems to be some issue going on with my setup, and last night, Garuda was polite enough to let me know what the problem was. Something going on with Kwin. So I'm reading as much as I can, but so far, I've found nothing.

I ramble, forgive me. I really hope I can resolve this because for some reason Gnome just doesn't sit right with me, and I like the philosophy behind Garuda.

Any chance of you posting specifics of what is happening and launch Konsole and enter grauda-inxi and paste the output here using 3 ~ above the posted Konsole output and 3 ~ after you Konsole output.

You could try running a Wayland session instead of X11. Search the forum for how to install and run Wayland on KDE.

To be honest I wouldn't make that suggestion without know if they're running nVidia or AMD / ATI for their video.

It's only for testing purposes, the session can be changed easily at the login screen.

You are correct though, the user needs to post the output of garuda-inxi to receive further assistance.

I have an Intel Xe integrated card. Not sure exactly what that would fall under.

can you provide your

garuda-inxi

As already requested

Your garuda-inxi output has been requested 3 times already (this is the 4th mention), if your next post does not include your required garuda-inxi, then this thread will be locked until you have provided this.

You can edit your original post (OP) by hitting the pencil icon at the bottom of your first post and paste in your garuda-inxi. We try to assist all users here, but the users that respect our forum's rules get priority assistance.

Please comply with all requests for information when asking for assistance. You will wear out forum assistants patience very quickly if you come off as uncooperative, (last warning).

also @gloriousbeardguy , garuda-inxi is just a terminal app that prints your computer specs, so that people can help you, it isn't dangerous in any way.

without it, we would be just guessing things!

The OP doesn't have a way that I can edit it. Here's the requested garuda-inxi.
Thanks for humoring me. I'm attempting to learn quickly.

It looks like you didn't install it yet. Are you having trouble getting through the installer?

This is very important.

The above description is of little help in trying to diagnose your issue. If there was some kind of error message onscreen then please write down exactly what the message was and post it on the forum. Please do not post pictures of a one sentence onscreen error message.

Do you experience a complete freeze when this happens?

Is it possible to move your mouse when this happens?

Can you use your keyboard when this happens?

We need far more information from you to be of any assistance. Help us to help you.

I had it installed. I ran it from a live usb to get the requested info.

The entire system froze for a good 10-20 seconds, and I was about to reboot.

When it unlocked from the freeze, I had about 15 error messages saying that the Kwin Windows Manager had restarted.

All Windows animations were gone after that. I’ll spend some time and reinstall it tonight and see if I can get the same error, and document what I was doing and what programs were running.

Updated inxi after reinstalling. I played around for about an hour and a half, and couldn't replicate the issue. Could there possibly been some problem during install I didn't know about?

weird stuff...
well ... the freezing of 10-20 seconds was probably the coredumps being generated (info on the errors being automatically generated).

So you did update after installation and now can't replicate? could there be some issue with the current versions you were in when having issues, and with the update, the new versions have it working properly?

I wish I knew. I don’t know enough to try and figure out what happened. I’ve had the same freezing issues on a couple different distros.

That indicates either machine or operator error.
