Weak battery and shutdown hangs

Ever since I removed the nvidia drivers in my last troubleshooting session my battery has been so weak to the point of only getting 3 hours out of a 100% charge. I tried putting the nvidia drivers back in but doing that caused problems so I removed them. I tried working with cpupower, and powertop but those didn’t help much. When I had the nvidia drivers in it caused my shutdown time to hang at a stop job on simple desktop display manager and would take up to 2 or 3 minutes. That stopped once I removed it but then I put TLP in for power and boosted my battery to 6 hours from 100% but now I’m hanging at my shutdown phase again and even when I restart after an update hangs at the powering down phase ):

Not an Nvidia user here, but I believe the suggested driver for your GPU is the open source driver from Nvidia.

Have you already tried it?

sudo pacman -S nvidia-open-dkms

Mine is Ada Lovelace so the open probably wouldn’t. Currently I’m full nouveau because of the drama associated with the nvidia drivers. Of course before putting nvidia back into my laptop after having to reinstall Garuda back in January worked for a little while before it started having issues with an update so I removed them but then doing so made my battery trash. I didn’t even have isues with my battery before putting the nvidia drivers in the second time around and my battery held pretty firm during the nvidia use but after removing them it just runs down so quickly.

This is NV190 family according to the link, so that driver is the suggested one.
Again, i’m not sure this can help for your issue, but it is the suggested one.
Are you sure you didn’t install or change config for anything related to power management in your troubleshooting history?

I didn’t change anything with cpupower and powertop. The thing I did last was install tlp but I had to remove the power profile daemon due to compatibility issues.

looks like the nvidia open is for the NV160 it seems

Auch, you’re right, sorry!
I saw “and newer” but didn’t see it was referred to Turing…

In your last thread there was also a info about bios update…but… nothing you have done.
You should look if you can make a bios update.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/omen-17.3-inch-gaming-laptop-pc-17-db0000/model/2102136813?sku=978D9AV

I mean yes, F 21 Rev. A is there.
Bios updates are really important. Why you don´t do this, if it’s possible.

Think on right settings inside bios then (secureb, fastb etc)
Boot your system then install over konsole the nvidia driver again.
sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms lib32-nvidia-utils
Pls post pacman -Qs nvidia and the current garuda-inxi.
If you need install nvidia-prime. (for using your dgpu for games etc)
sudo pacman -S nvidia-prime

Also I did switch back to the power profile deamon from tlp before I put the nvidia drivers back in. I did restart after doing my inxi and I did hang at my restart phase a little and saw where my /root and my /var/tmp failed to unmount

no worries, thanks for trying to help otherwise (:

Now that I think of it maybe some of the vulkan drivers could be causing problems. Not sure how the vulkan intel got in here because this laptop is AMD o-o Perhaps that could be causing my problem???

As far as I remember from experience with the hp device of a friend, the exe file creates a bootable USB stick for updating the BIOS. So you would “only” need access to any windows computer to create this stick.

AMD it’s not a problem.
The integration and working metal + bios + system.

Bios update

During boot process press F10 → now you see “utility bios” then choice hp.com bios update.
Follow the instructions on screen to update the BIOS.

I have also a hp omen laptop without M$ and no prop with this.

I don’t have access to a windows computer at this time o.o The hangs stopped and my batter has renewed life after putting nvidia drivers in. So far so good that is o-o

Systemd enabled service has broken link in "/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/tlp.service"

I saw these with my updates today. I uninstalled tlp so this is weird o-o

I did look through the f10 stuff and couldn’t find the utulity bios so I’m gonna have to check out the link you sent and see what I can do

the videos said to grab it from a windows machine but I don’t have windows on anything right now x_x
