Wayland crashes: segfault at random times

Hello everyone
I’ve recently had some problems on my new PC where I’ve been experiencing random wayland crashes.
Most frequently when I use spectacle to make a screenshot and click “Copy”, though one time it happened when I opened a folder on my desktop.
My system is up to date, I’ve tried using linux-zen, linux-lts and linux-mainline.
I also tried switching to X11, but I just end up on a gray screen where even the CTRL+ALT+F1…6 doesnt work.

When these crashes, I always get a wayland segfault as such:

wrz 03 21:48:44 BigBoss kernel: kwin_wayland[27736]: segfault at 1 ip 00007f1a55c371dc sp 00007fffce2d3bf0 error 6 in libgallium-25.2.1-arch1.5.so[a371dc,7f1a55219000+1a97000] likely on CPU 8 (core 10, socket 0)

Here is my garuda-inxi:

Any idea how I can diagnose this further?

Heya, are you still facing this when manually updating to the testing version of Mesa?

The best way to do this would be to temporarily add the archlinux testing repositories to your pacman.conf file and updating your system.

When you decide to remove the repository, you need to update your system using the command garuda-update -- -u to downgrade any packages back to the non testing versions.

Please report back with your results as this will help other users with the same issue.

Sorry, I’m not experienced in switching repositories in arch-based systems yet. Could you please tell me how would I go about switching to the testing repos?

Modify /etc/pacman.conf and find the line mentioning [extra].

Paste these two lines above it:

[extra-testing]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Then update the system with garuda-update.

Well right now the update fails entirely I’m afraid. Here is the error code:

installing libjpeg-turbo (3.1.2-1) breaks dependency 'libjpeg-turbo=3.1.1' required by lib32-libjpeg-turbo

Seems you’ll also need multilib-testing.

It seems that indeed did help, I have installed the updates and will monitor my system over the next few days.

Are you experiencing significantly less logouts?

You should be good to remove the testing repos.
Afterward, revert your system back to a stable state with this command:

garuda-update -- -u

The mesa package has been pulled into the normal repos by the Arch Linux developers.

Sorry, you misunderstood, I mean that after adding the second testing repo, the update finished successfully.
However, I have indeed not experienced a single crash or logout since that happened, which cannot be said about my other PC which did not have these fixes implemented that i kept as a control group. I will revert the changes, update both and report back with the results

Amazing!

Unfortunately, while the update seems to have worked on the second PC, the issue still persists on this one. This time it crashed while opening a folder on the desktop :frowning:

Hey, that’s something at least hah

4 days later, we had a lot of updates and some issues with this and some also solved.
Pls post current-garuda and the info that your other system is now well is (sorry) not relevant, your PC 2 = different metal.

Mesa Ver. is current 25.2.2 not 25.2.1 and the manual intervention from the testing repo x64 + x32

Unfortunately, still occur, still caused by libgallium
