The Vivaldi browser has stopped starting, and instead of starting, the process "rsync -aX --in place --no-whole-file /home/username/.config/vivaldi-backup/ /run/user/1000/psd/username-vivaldi" appears. And the browser will not start until you remove this process, while the current session and tabs are lost. On the browser forum, I was answered "There is no vivaldi-backup builtin with rsync in Vivaldi browser." and that this is a distro problem and not a browser. Can you tell me please what to do with this problem? I'm just not a very advanced user.

What is the output of systemctl status psd.service?

Unit psd.service could not be found.

My mistake, try with the --user flag:

systemctl --user status psd.service

Did you lose power or force a shutdown or anything like that?

Are there files in this directory? Check ls ~/.config/vivaldi-backup

Is this the only browser with this issue? Check those other browsers, Firedragon and Google Chrome and see if they return a similar error.

Try restarting the profile sync daemon:

systemctl --user restart psd.service

Then check the status again.

Another thing to test would be move that Vivaldi backup directory it is stuck syncing to see what happens:

mv ~/.config/vivaldi-backup ~/.config/vivaldi-backup.bak

Reopen the browser and check for a change to the error message.

Yes, there are files there.

Yes, other browsers don’t have this problem.

Now I will restart daemon and also move the vivaldi-backup directory and write to you

There is no error message, the browser simply stops starting after restarting the system (turn it off). That's the problem. And until these processes are removed, the browser does not start, while all tabs and sessions are deleted if they are removed. At the same time, these processes can hang indefinitely.

shut down in the main menu

See if you have better luck if the profile sync daemon leaves Vivaldi alone altogether.

micro .config/psd/psd.conf

Scroll down the line that says BROWSERS= and delete Vivaldi out of the list.

Then restart the psd.service again, or better yet take a reboot if you can and test if the browser opens normally.

By the way, if moving the backup directory did not help at all you can either move it back:

mv ~/.config/vivaldi-backup.bak ~/.config/vivaldi-backup

or just delete it if it has already made a new one.
