I have a Seagate 4 TB external hardisk, which was working fine till recently the hard disk is shown under lsusb but not mounted or shown in Dolphin File Manager. My Garuda-inxi is given below:

We used to use the usb - storage module to access the USB storge uas is causing a lot of trouble…:frowning:

You could try to deactivate UAS for the device. To do so boot with the kernel option
usb-storage.quirks=0bc2:2344:u
or create the file disable-seagate-uas.conf in /etc/modprobe.d
which contains
options usb-storage quirks=0bc2:2344:u

EDIT: I´m not sure but maybe you need a dracut-rebuild after this.

I tried the above hack, still the uas driver is loading. What to do… :frowning:

Have you used your trusted search engine in the meantime?

If so, let us know exactly what you have already tried.
Have you rebuilt the kernel?

I am recompiling the kernel as we speak, i have removed the uas module from the kernel build.

I would first test alternate kernels such as linux-lts, linux-hardened, linux, or the linux-mainline kernel.

You stated the drive was working correctly up until recently.

Have you tested attaching the USB drive during a live Garuda boot session? It might be a good idea to test the drive using an Ubuntu live boot disk as well.

You stated that the drive will not “auto-mount”, but have you tested other methods?

Will the drive mount manually using a terminal or TTY?

Will the drive mount properly using either a systemd mount unit or fstab, (be sure to use the nofail flag)?

Is the drive correctly detected in GParted or the KDE partition Manager? Can the drive be mounted using one of the GUI partitioning utilities above, or using Gnome Disks?

You stated that you tested the drive in your laptop, and that it was fine.

Alternatively, have you tested another drive inside your USB drive enclosure to check if the drive caddy is faulty? It has been my experience over the years that the controller in USB drive enclosures can fail quite regularly, (especially if you live in an area prone to brown/blackouts).

If you can mount the drive, be sure to run SMART diagnostic tests on the drive to make sure it does not have any issues. Report on the results.

What file system is in use on this drive? If the drive is using the NTFS file system, I would highly recommend backing up your data and formatting the drive to a native Linux file system such as ext4 or BTRFS.
