Unable to get into bios - acer nitro 5

hey guys, i’m new to garuda and i cannot get into the bios to install a new os,i can get into normal garuda tho, but i dont know how to troubleshoot or fix this

Hello and welcome,

Do you have a Instruction Guide ? I did a short search on the Web. See here

Tried f2, did not work I can’t upload an image of what it did but it kept me on the Acer screen after pressing f2

You also can try the DEL Button aka delete . Did you hold the button? Dont hold it just press and release many times when the ACER Screen Logo comes up . You also can try to load it over windows which windows you have installed?

There is no need to install another OS if Garuda Linux is installed.

On Garuda grub you can just use UEFI Firmware Settings for BIOS.

Please post your garuda-inxi as requested by the template. Among other things, it contains the exact model of the laptop.

Assuming this is an Acer Aspire V Nitro, then F2 is correct to enter the BIOS. Try to open the BIOS boot menu with F12 - does that work? If not, then the BIOS is probably faulty or the F keys are not working properly. Since you can obviously boot Garuda Linux, boot it and check if the F-keys work. For example, you can open dolphin and activate the “Selection Mode” with F2 or you can test whether “Show Previews” can be enabled/disabled with F12.

You can also try booting directly from Garuda Linux into the BIOS: Application Launcher → System → Reboot To UEFI.

I got into the boot manager!
But bios idk yet

How would I post the garuda-inxi?

Open the Terminal and type it in and copy paste in here as Preformatted text field </> sign or use 3 tiles ~ above and under it.

It would be useful if you could finally provide some helpful information. We still don’t know what kind of laptop model it is and if you tried to boot into the BIOS from Linux.

Open a terminal, enter this:

garuda-inxi

copy the output and paste it here in the forum using a code block, as @Duke187 has already mentioned.

Since you obviously enter the BIOS boot menu with F12 and the laptop hangs at the Acer logo when you press F2, the F keys seem to work.

Try a cold boot (since we do not know the exact acer model, here is an example of an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition / VN7-793G):

  1. turn off the laptop and disconnect everything including the power cable.
  2. turn the laptop over, on the bottom there is a small battery symbol in the middle and a reset pinhole next to it. Take a needle or paperclip and press the microswitch underneath for 5 seconds (this briefly disconnects the power from the internal battery from the board, this is not a BIOS reset).
  3. turn the laptop back over, open the display and press and hold the power button on the keyboard for approx. 30 seconds.
  4. plug the power cable back into the laptop, switch it on and check whether you can access the BIOS with F2.
