i would like to warn anyone with GTX4080 card that a new install of Garuda might be very challenging after the latest nvidea drivers update.

To get it running on a X11 window manager, follow the steps below, i have not been able to get Wayland running successfully on my GTX4080 card with the new nvidia drivers.

The following steps for successfully completion of your installation.

1 ) Install Garuda with open source drivers NOT the nvidea drivers.
2) When running Garuda for the first time - DO NOT UPDATE - but go to settings, type in SDDM, pick the Behaviour menu option, and choose to automatically log in on X11 window manager. Then log out and log in again.
3) After this download the Linux LTS kernel with Garuda settings manager. If this is successful, (check details while installing,) reboot and run Garuda on the LTS kernel from your GRUB menu.
4) On reboot, run Garuada settings manager again, and delete the Zen kernel.
5) Now update Garuda and install the Nvidia graphic drivers at the end of the update, and anything else you want installed.

6 reboot!

7 Load Garuda from the LTS kernel again.

8 Go back to the Garuda settings manager, and install the Zen kernel again. Check details as it is installing, to see you do not get a error 10 when compiling the kernel when it compiles the nvidea DKMS drivers into it. If no error is thrown up, reboot into the zen kernel, update Garuda, and all should be well from now on.

If however if you do get an error 10 during the above process, you can try install Bauh and install tpm2- tools, and tpm2-tss-engine, and redo the zen kernel. (Delete it, and reboot in linux-lts and reinstall the zen kernel.)

All the best!

I’m calling BS and asking the Devs to please weigh in on this.

No experience with NVIDIA here. @TNE is the expert on this topic :stuck_out_tongue:

Just try installation, with nvidia driver, with

and don’t use the zen kernel

Or donate an G RTX 4080 to me for testing.

I’m not sure what happened during your first install but there are many nvidia users who have not had this issue. With 4060s to 4090s. I had 1 4080 system tell I swapped to amd in may. I’ve never seen anyone have to delete zen to install the drivers. but if this helps someone on with a edge case all the better.

i am not sure what might be the trouble either. It all worked fine until the time before last nvidea drivers came through, then the trouble began. The updater complaining that it missed an updated ptm2-tss file and my system crashed. After that i installed the linux-lts kernel, waiting for the newest nvidea drivers to fix the error, and run the zen kernel again.

However i bought an faster SDD drive and wanted to install Garuda on the new faster drive. That is when the troubles began, though i have it up and running now, it took me some time to figure out how to get around the trouble, for i knew on my other drive Garuda worked fine with my graphic card.

i tried many different ways. This was the only one that worked.

Hence my post.

I installed Dr460nized last January from scratch without any problems.
RTX4070, Zen kernel, Nvidia DKMS (now 550.90.07-2) and no problems on X11 with 2 monitors.
Still some glitches on Wayland but usable.

i had the Zen kernel up and running but an update crash broke it, now i can only run the linux-lts and the linux cachyos-lts, bot are 6.6.33.1 kernel versions. None of the other kernels compile rightly. All exit with the exit 10 code, and giving a none location to where the error log is suppose to be saved.

i hope that they will not be the next kernels to give out, for then i have none left.

Here the output of the zen kernel going wrong;

The following packages will be installed:
linux-zen

Hello!
I not have LTS Kernel.
… but using Kernel: Linux 6.9.5-zen1-1-zen, latest Nvidia driver with X11 running without any problem. GTX 1080.

Look… “Consult /var/lib/dkms/nvidia/550.90.07/build/make.log for more information.”
Try to reinstall DKMS.

That is part of the problem, such log file, or its directory does not exist. i have compiled the kernel at least 1/2 dozen times, without success. Always the same error. All other kernels apart of the two i mentioned.

i managed to fix the problem by following @Soong post on installing nvidia-all drivers, and installing then latest version ( 555.52.04.) Now the Zen kernel can be compiled again, and all is working sweet.

That is what i like of Garuda, i almost always manage to fix my issues, without having to go nuclear.
