THERMAL ISSUES DEBUGGING Purebook S14

ACPI Errors and Fan State Failure on Boot

Hi everyone,

I’m encountering several ACPI errors and a fan state failure on boot, and I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot these issues. Here’s a summary of what I’m seeing in my dmesg output:

The fan runs normally, but i dont think temps are normal. On load average 1.0 it touches temps above 90 °C.

The laptop is a NON-OEM/ODM laptop.

It’s normal for laptops’ CPU to reach 90 Celsius under load.
Edit:
The best you can do is to change the thermal paste and clean the fans every 6 months.

under a load average of 1.0 , 93 tasks and 180 threads ??

Yes

An average load of 1.0 means cpu is running at 100%. It is fair to say that if your CPU is running at 100%, (for laptop) it will cross 90C easily within seconds. And you have an Intel chip. They run hotter than most AMD Ryzen chips.

You can try changing the power profile to performance (under power management → Other Settings). That’s about it on the software side. Don’t expect too much when buying low end laptops. Even Apple runs their processors to 90C on idle.

Your best bet is to buy a mid-high range gaming laptop or a workhorse laptop if you want to keep the temperature low on idle. Under load, they will cross 90C too.

I have applied a two expensive thermal compounds on mine. PTM 7950 on CPU and GPU, Upsiren u6 pro on VRMs and mosfets. It’s stays at around 55C on idle and jumps to 90C+ under load.

Thanks that made me stop thinking too much about the temperatures.
