The Garuda social channels: Why?

As SGS showed, we already have a bot doing some tasks (among them welcoming people and telling them it’s not a support chat…), it could in theory be configured to respond to certain keywords as shown in the example. Though, which ones to use?

I gotchu fam.

  • “help me”
  • “It’s broken”
  • “not working”
  • “How to fix”
  • “How can I fix”
  • “anyone please tell me” (please optional)
  • “I have problem”

Unfortunately I think I know one individual who never said any of these all while being a help vampire… and these are also more like phrases rather than words :weary:

SGS: Interesting, now I know who Rose is  her messages don’t seem to go over any bridges so I didn’t realise she was a bot or user until now.
Most of the support requesters are from Telegram, though occasionally they come from Discord and Matrix. (No one uses IRC so we don’t talk about that lol). Any plans to battle with that?

Also, uhh… are other people supposed to provide support right after someone makes a recommendation to visit the forums, just because people prefer to be in a chatroom rather than a forum?

Lol... thanks for using a Screenshot with my Telegram name in it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I like the list of keywords. They should not hinder a general discussion about linux topics.

I blown by how little I have bothered to explore the things I use on a day to day basis. I started to use telegram due to college’s TnP department having their only group on that platform and even after receiving two prolly fake escort service dms (Straight to the block list) I never bothered hiding my number.
guess the damage is done but oh well… better late than never.

This seems like a good start! I think it should include a few “please help” variations.

  • “please help”
  • “pls help”

Maybe a couple variations with the word “issue”.

  • “have an issue”
  • “having an issue”

I suppose the more robust the keyword list gets, the more often it will be triggered “falsely”, in the course of normal conversation. Stuff will have to be added/removed as it gets tested.

Still, unless it gets too spammy I would think folks in a normal conversation will be able to laugh it off and carry on if the bot butts in.

I guess like the keyring trigger we could go with

  • help
  • please
  • broken
  • fix

though I guess this might create more trouble than solve it.

I think there should longer phrases as many of these are used in normal conversations ,
things these :

and

can be used.
just a single word things can cause interruption in general conversations too !!!

Speaking of this, one of the greats spelt "issue’ as “ishu”, but I suppose the more important aspect right now is the implementation rather than accommodating every single possibility.

There is also another thing that help vampires do that can help them get around being warned by the bot: the absolutely dreaded pictures of the computer screen (ie blurry terminal pictures and the other nonsense that recently popped up in the chats for every single time they had a question to ask or needed to move to the next step). These are 99% of the time not proper screenshots, but pictures from their phone of their computer screen, which is the real tragedy. This is about things which can have proper screenshots taken of, rather than the terminal/tty pictures from boot.
Those need to be moderated by a real human being, so hopefully the help vampires don’t try to adapt by using that strategy if these measures are ever implemented. :cold_sweat:

(shoot i gave them ideas!!)

Saying about this , I think we can only rely on bots no human have time for such things , devs here focus on softwares , mods here are in the forum to assist but I believe that no one would like to keep saying "not to do this " and "not to do that " ."please ask in forum "…like things ,they (mods) also have lives , so no human assistance for these people is possible , we can just do modification on bots… :slightly_smiling_face:
