That multi monitor thing with RDR2 post Jan 2024

After RockStar’s end of January update to RDR2 I started to experience this trifling problem, when I try to run RDR2 with all my monitors connected and enabled the loading gets to the grey progress bar being half way along and just sits there, I can work around this by disabling two of my monitors in display settings and then powering them off, then RDR2 loads all they way in and runs just as well as it used to before RockStar’s “helpful” update but as I need all monitors for my usual work flows this is a royal p.i.t.a.

Valve and RockStar have both been as useful as a chocolate ashtray in this matter so I thought to ask here just in case any others have had this happen. Any hints or indeed clues would be most welcome, thanks.

Does this also happen under Wayland? it looks like you are running X11 atm

Have you tried switching between settings like fullscreen and borderless fullscreen?

RDR2 seems to be working fine for me. I only have 2 monitors (and the second was only plugged in for the test). But I got to the actual gameplay part fine. I’m on X11 with an AMD GPU.

Maybe the game didn’t update right. I have it through the Rockstar launcher and that process isn’t very intuitive. I used the verify game file integrity" option, since that’s what someone recommended online. My current game version is 1.0.1491.18.

I’d be happy to do more testing to help narrow down the issue, but I only have the two monitors. If you have a newer game version, I can look into other ways to try and update.

Thanks for the reply, apologies for the delay coming back but I got stuck down a deep rabbit hole with the firmware for my 3d printer’s new mother board … turned out to be a typo hidden in the source code for it from BTT’s web site … good news is that the update to Proton GE 9 beta has fixed all my RDR2 woes, an earlier system update with a shift to Wayland let it run once but then returned to single monitor use. Thankfully the custom G E proton got the job done. atb MWW
