The system is unable to shutdown and the screen says systemd waiting for udev worker. If I initiate the shutdown on the laptop and go to sleep, it’ll still be stuck on that log screen till morning and it’s unable to shutdown. For the past few days I’ve been manually shutting down by long-pressing the power button. Any help is appreciated. I can provide any logs you require. This started after the most recent update.

Can we see a little more from the journal? Something like this:

journalctl -b -1 -e | tb

That should show the last 1000 entries leading up to shutdown from your last boot, and pipe to Termbin (so you can just type the URL into the thread if it is too long to paste the full output).

Did the system hang during this shutdown?

The system never hangs during usage. Just that it gets stuck at the shutdown.

That’s what I mean. This specific shutdown that the journal is showing, did it get stuck? I ask because the journal makes it look like the shutdown succeeds.

Does it say anything else? Take a picture of the screen it gets stuck at if you can.

It always gets stuck at the waiting for process point. It’s same culprit each time.

Hmm, kind of a weird one because your actual journal doesn’t seem to match that output.

Here are few things you can try to see if you get a different result:

  • Try unplugging devices from your computer to see if you can figure out if the issue is related to a specific device. Start with wireless devices if you have any.
  • Try booting with the fallback initramfs image.
  • Install the LTS kernel and test if the issue remains with that. Try the fallback image on the LTS kernel as well.

Alright. So the regular Linux Kernel (not the LTS one) shows expected behavior and shuts down normally. I’m not sure if this is a proper solution tho.

You are right, the “proper solution” will have to come from the kernel devs after they fix whatever the issue is. If you are able to put together a proper bug report for them that may be helpful. Other than that, there isn’t much for it but to wait for someone else to fix it, and just use a different kernel in the meanwhile.
