System freezes randomly

Hey there,

same issues as him, though in my case, it just happens randomly.
I did the journals, as petsam suggested. Here are the results.

Jan 06 22:07:34 kernel: Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!

I didn't post the second journal because the last log in there was from an hour before the crash.

One thing to note, it generally happens when I do anything with my windows. Alt-Tabbing, dragging it, etc. Which let me to believe that it may have something to do with the compositor? Some post suggested turning V-Sync off but that in turn causes screen tearing so not an option.

Not every system is the same, especially with hardware/kernel issues (video, nvidia etc).

But does it solve the freeze problem?
Test if disabling the compositor solves this, so we know more.
Try other options in the Compositor Plasma Settings section, like the checkbox to allow apps block compositing.

Nvidia settings have a setting for ForceFullCompositionsomething .

Try the above, one at a time or in combinations.
Making them permanent is for later.
Also

may point to a package rebuild case… @librewish ?

Alright, I try out if anything works. Even if it means watching YouTube videos with screen tearing for the time being

Also, I've done a pacman -Syu today to see if an update helps.

Hello @DDTyphos,

For me, I think the issue was in rendering backend due to which probably it freezes. I read your previous comments and updated my settings of compositor. I changed rendering backend to OpenGL 3.1 from default OpenGL 2.0.

Fortunately, it works for me and now my issue has been solved

Can the team of Garuda Linux will explain me why my issue solved by changing rendering backend to OpenGL 3.1? I mean to ask the reason

Unfortunately, it also hang when I changed to OpenGL 3.1.
I've tried running it with an updated system but it still crashed. However, now that I turned V-Sync off, it hasn't crashed for 2 days, while in active use.
However, I can't leave it off. Watching YouTube or Netflix videos is unbearable with the screen-tearing. I'll keep it off for another day so we know for sure but, in case this really is the issue, there has to be another solution.

I don't think I run the same stuff you have - but is there not a 'Tear-free' option for your video, other than vsync on/off ? Just a thought, as I've seen it on several setups when cruising through posts/solutions....

Have you tried my other suggestions, yet? Please report, so we know what you have tried.

Theirs also screen tearing in Intel when screen recording I have to turn of V-Sync and even with my old Intel graphics that only runs minecraft at 200 fps it looks horrible with v sync on. Only effects KDE

Each GPU/driver has different solutions for similar user/output problems.

That seemed to halve solved the problem! Setting this ForceFullComposition.
I haven’t had a crash since. V-Sync is also on in the settings. I will keep an eye on it and update, should another crash occur but so far, I think that was it.
