How did you install steam?

The immediate reasons I can think of for this are a lack of disk space (which doesn’t appear to be a problem), incorrect file/directory permissions, or one of the Steam locations (e.g. $HOME/Steam, $HOME/.steam) is a dangling symlink.

Tried to install it from Garuda Gamer, Apper and using pacman, flatpak does install but its a mess

Havent messed with permissions and never had this problem with fresh install, i did try to remove it and it does write to that location but still gives that error🤔

Try running steam as root, will rule out the permissions possibility

This is a very bad troubleshooting step for applications that are designed to run as a normal user.

While you’re correct that it will

it will create all sorts of other issues.

Therefore, please don’t suggest “run as root” or “run with sudo” as a troubleshooting step.

If it’s a permissions issue then verify what the permissions are and that they are actually the problem.

i literally have no idea what to do as beginner but i did try to run it with "sudo" and using root because why not and got this, root gave the same error with different output and sudo got this:
fish: Job 1, 'sudo /home/dickersson/.steam/st…' terminated by signal SIGSEGV (Address boundary error),
output as root:

why does flatpak version work tho?.
also, i installed Garuda with "Replace a partition" option(dual boot), dont know if that matters.

Because it will create files owned by root in your home directory that your user cannot write to and therefore things will break.

If you’re going to do things that someone specifically says not to then it’s pretty pointless asking for help.

You have somehow broken your setup, so, as this is a fairly new installation anyway, I’d recommend that you back up any documents you have created that you want to keep and then start over completely.

Then, note down what you do and what problems you face so you can describe them in order and in detail when asking for help.

thanks for your answer, many did say to try it and after all if im reinstalling i my Garuda does it really make any difference?, i did note down what i did in this install tho and it started from welcome screen, installed my usual programs that i got on my laptop too including steam and it didn't work but ill be back when i got time to install a new one

well, i "nearly" repeated everything but instead of installing everything i need with assistant/gamer i just installed steam and it works like a charm, thank you for your help and time
