Garuda (2.6.4-2):
  System install date: 2022-07-05
  Last full system update: 2022-07-05
  Is partially upgraded: No
  Relevant software: NetworkManager
  Windows dual boot: No/Undetected
  Snapshots: Snapper
  Failed units:

games i have tried to launch recently fail to do so. Seems that a recent system update has caused the issue. I reloaded a snapper profile from early last month and the problem went away. unfortunately i have tried to update the system since then and no longer have that snapper profile. I have tried reinstalling everything, together, individually, etc.. last resort i did a fresh install of garuda and still no dice.

It might be worth trying a different kernel, since you have newer hardware which can break more easily when the kernel is updated.

Try the mainline kernel. First bring your system fully up to date:

garuda-update

Install the kernel and headers:

sudo pacman -S linux-mainline linux-mainline-headers

Reboot, then on the grub screen pick advanced options and boot the new kernel.

Hi :slightly_smiling_face:

Something similar happened to me a year or so back with a past instalment of Garuda. Turns out the problem was with WINE. After wine updated it somehow incorrectly set itself (wine /boxtron) as the default handler of all .exe files and as a result couldn't get any game to launch correctly, if at all.

with the limited knowledge I had back then, I couldn't figure out how to clear the default apps for all windows associated files so I had to resort to completely uninstalling wine, playonlinux etc which fixed it for me. Since then I became a faithful user of steamtinkerlaunch winch makes playing games, or rather the setup of them, on linux much easier

It's probably unlikely, but perhaps something similar could have happened during the update?

Maybe try

steam --reset

or

steam-runtime --reset
