Whenever I launch a game from steam my screen goes black and when it comes back it is on the login screen. When I proceed to log in steam is closed and I have to reopen but does the same thing again when I retry launching the game.

From our Downloadpage

Minimum requirements

  • 4 GB RAM
  • Video card with OpenGL 3.3 or better

Seems your laptop have not enough “power”.

So i'd be better going to a different distro. Because I could game fine on debian based distro's?

Without log files why steam crashes, no one can say.
If it works with MX linux, or similar, I would use my older hardware with it too.
My oldest PC from 2002 runs fine with it.
