Spectacle Screen Shot Utility not working, KDE Plasma, NVidia

Hi,

the screenshot utility Spectacle is not working. On KDE Plasma, running a Wayland session with NVida drivers. I suspect the problem is NVida driver related.

After updating my system yesterday, my multi monitor setup only had video on the laptop screen, not the external monitors. For some reason I had to manually install the DKMS package to fix that issue:

sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms

I get the following in my notifications when I run the program:

Launching Spectacle Failed
Remote Peer Disconnected

I found hint on the Arch Wiki:

[Spectacle crashes in NVIDIA driver code on startup after upgrading to Plasma 6](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481977)

Delete libva-vdpau-driver and replace with libva-nvidia-driver.

If I use Octopi and search libva I have the following installed:

libva-vdpau-driver
lib32-libva-intel-driver
libva-intel-driver
lib32-libva
libva
Libva-utils

I do not have libva-nvidia-driver installed. I see it as part of the “extra” repository, but it’s not installed on my system.

Any thoughts on this? inxi and KDE crash report below. Thanks.

Install it with:

sudo pacman -S libva-nvidia-driver

I haven’t found that suggestion in the Arch Wiki (possibly link the page when you refer to the wiki). But in KDE:

For your graphics card, it is recommended to use nvidia-open-dkms

Also remember to reboot (especially after kernel and DKMS changes).

Thank you @filo & @Kayo both of your posts were very helpful and lead to both the solution, and as a bonus the proper DKMS package being installed on my system.

In summary, form @filo’s link to the bugs.kde.org:

Having encountered the same problem with Spectacle under
LXQt+kwin_wayland today, I also confirm that it was fixed
by uninstalling the libva-vdpau-driver, which was a
leftover of old times.

Uninstalling libva-vdpau-drive did fix Spectacle and who knows what else. I’ve seen posts where uninstalling this package also solved problems with OBS Studio.

As a bonus, the information from @Kayo got the correct DKMS package installed.

Thank you guys. Really helps us “regular” users when you take time to help us.

I’ll mark this post as the solution to help others who run into this issue.
