Sound keeps resetting and stop working

Dear Good people,

I have installed the latest Plasma 6 build Bird of Pray few days ago, and ever since my sound keeps disappearing.

What I mean by that, it is working, I am playing YouTube videos, watching movies etc. and at some point the audio profile(Pro Audio) in the Sound system settings is gone.

To make it work again, I have to switch to another output(digital surround 5.1(IEC958/AC3)) from the available to the right from the drop down menu, and then switch back to Pro audio and everything is working fine again for some time.

The multimedia controls are not working as well and to make that work, I have to restart the system.

Also, my audio system is connected via optical cable to the build in audio card.

As a test switch to x11 at login instead of wayland

This is something that was happening last year and one of the main reasons to drop Garudaā€¦ so I was hoping that with Plasma 6 and everything new 1 year later things will be fine but not really.

The thing is that some times for hours is working fine and other times the problem occurs very often.

For example in the last 3 hours it is working fine and I have the sound system settings panel openā€¦ itā€™s like it resets from something if it is closedā€¦ such a weird issue

Are there any errors in the system journal when the problem occurs?

There are errors in the Journal but not sure it is related to the sound, mainly one of my disks and network reports.

The log is too large to paste here but will monitor and try to make sense of it, thanks for the suggestion.

You have a problem with pipewire. Thatā€™s not the cause, but something is kicking pipewire out. Thatā€™s why the audio drops out.

Remove the usb cam and the usb mic and check whether it works without any issues. And try a different audio output for the audio system, w/o optical cable.

Thank you, I will remove the mic and the cam to tick this out as a potential.

Also it is easy to try and get back to the analogue jack so will try to rule that out too.

Yes 1 of my old HDD(1TB), is with bad sectors(2 partitions are unmounted and I am runing RLinux to recover as much as I can :)), this is my old rig from 2013ā€¦ I am testing out Garuda here first before install it to my main machine as last year had many problems with the multiple monitors I am using but now this is sorted!

Hm not sure that a hard drive bad sector can do that :slight_smile:

Since it stopped working yesterday, the sound is working fine now only the audio volume control wonā€™t start anymore and I know it will start if I reboot.

Anyway, as I mentioned this is my old rig and I want to test everything for a month to use it as a daily OS for work and everything before I switch to my main PC.

Switch back and forth to X11/Wayland doesnt help. Removed Alsa, Pipewire, Pulse, etc. nothing helps. :>

Edit: Turning back on the ā€œInternal HD Audioā€ in UEFI did the trick. Turned them off in system, and have so far back my sound, with out glitching around.
