Selected wrong display resolution, unable to recover

I’m posting from my cellphone, so I can’t post required info. Basically, I selected an unsupported resolution. After asking around reddit, I deleted the kscreen folder thinking it would reset display. Well, that didn’t work. Display goes dark and kb/m are unresponsive. I can only access command line from login screen.

What can I do to fix this? I’m running KDE Dragonized. Thanks!

Next time, describe the issue here or ?

You delete the folder /home/user/.local/share/kscreen ? Hmm…
Press ctrl-alt-F3, switch to your recycling folder (/home/user/.local/Trash → copy the folder kscreen to /home/user/.local/share/ → reboot → and ?
Konsole: cp -R /home/~/.local/share/Trash/kscreen /home/~/.local/share
I hope your Trash folder is not “empty.”

hi ,

did you try to boot a last snapshot?
or to you have other kernels installed to try if you get back on gui?
do you try to uninstall driver and reinstall again?

or you try this:

garuda-update remote reinstall

to install all packages again and after restart it comes back with resolution.

It’s pretty straight forward. I selected a resolution tv doesn’t support. It didn’t revert back. After scouring reddit and other places, I found deleting kscreen was supposed to reset display, but it didn’t. Stuck with login screen or terminal.

I’ve got to edit grub config file since I have it set to zero timer. Unless there is a way to get it during boot.

This too..well
Fastest boot as possible, why ? Perhaps now, you know why is the simple decision the better way. To wait 3-7 sec are really too long ?

  • After boot the same..press ctrl-alt-F3 → switch to /boot/grub/grub.cfg → change the relevant entry. (as root)
  • Use the live-iso → chroot in your system → change / copy the relavant stuff.

So, after switching back to my PC monitor, I’m able to access my desktop again. Kscreen is still gone and not in trash. However, KDE is holding onto the display settings.

If I do the remote reinstall, is that like doing a factory reset? Meaning I’ll have to re setup my system again? Thanks!

you mean

No, only a useful option to reinstall “all” over konsole.
(to find also inside the Garuda Assistent or Rani)
If your system is running well you need “only” garuda-update / garuda-update --a or
upd / upd -a

I did the reinstall, but it’s still using an unsupported resolution for the TV which is weird. Yesterday, I attached a pc monitor, got desktop, shutdown, moved pc back to TV and spent all day gaming on TV. But when I booted PC today, it using unsupported resolution again. Makes no sense.

This is gonna sound really stupid, but I think I got it fixed. I was using HDR on my PC monitor. When I move to TV,it didn’t complain about HDR. Well, after selecting wrong resolution and going through all this, TV finally mentioned something today about HDR. Went into settings and found HDR was turned off. So, TV wasn’t handling HDR from KDE and giving me the unsupported resolution error. Once I turned that option on on the TV, it’s been fine.

This whole thing started cause I was trying to find a display setup that gave me decent desktop space while getting scaled to 200 up to 300%. 1440p @ 300% was too big and 4k @ 300% was still too small. So, I tried a 16:9 resolution that was between those two and that’s how I got here. Don’t know why TV wasn’t complaining before about HDR, but whatever.

Thanks for the help!
