Reset to default xfce garuda appereance

Dear all,

First of all I want to thank the maintainers of this distribution for their awesome work.
I decided to switch from Windows to Linux and Garuda is the only distribution which runs on my machine (lucky me!)

I am therefore a bit of a newbie, so sorry in advance for my lack of knowledge.

Hardware Info: Dell Precision 5690 with Garuda Xfce

As I started the laptop today, the desktop environment showed some weird behaviour:

  • The min, max, close Buttons on all Windows were gone
  • When I opened a Terminal I could not write anything into it. I could only write into the terminal which was already opened after startup.
  • I couldnā€™t write into the ā€˜searchā€™ area in the taskbar on the bottom.
  • If I clicked on a window in the back, the front window did not minimize.

I tried updating and rebooting the system, which didnā€™t help.
I then deleted the xfce4 folders in the .config/ and .cache/ folder and rebooted.

Now the desktop environment works again, BUT the look is totally different than the default look from Garuda xfce. (Background with the Mouse, no dark mode, the taskbar is now on top and there is this widget which appears on the bottom). I guess this is the default xfce look?

So I have two questions regarding the problem:

  • What are possible reasons that my desktop environment showed that strange behaviour?
  • What could I have done instead of deleting the xfce4 folders to ā€˜resetā€™ the desktop environment?
  • How can I reset to the default Garuda xfce Style (I simply just want to have the ā€˜oldā€™ taskbar on the bottom)

Thanks in advance for your help and have a great day!

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

Try with Garuda Assistant ā†’ select ā€œAllā€ in ā€œReset Configsā€ and press the ā€œReset Selected Configsā€ button. Logout and log back in.
