Confusion around why the new mode is on by default, and the editing of posts that were done in “rich text editor” mode have only been causing headaches lately in the forums.

There is a whole topic in meta.discourse.org about what people dislike about the new “rich text editor” mode.
There is a forum owner option to disable it:
This new feature has been causing nothing but problems. As a moderator, I attempt to correct formatting errors on users posts when they have posted their garuda-inxi incorrectly.
What I’ve found is that once a user has posted incorrectly even as an admin it is very, very difficult to correct the errors with the new discourse software format.
Even with admin privs, I find it next to impossible to make the user’s post display properly whether in markdown mode or otherwise.
I find it manageable for my own posts, but when I try to correct others mistakes it’s very problematic. It’s like once the wrong formatting has been applied by the user, it’s just stuck there and refuses to be corrected.
Maybe I’m doing something incorrectly, but as an admin before the change correcting errors was easy, now it’s a royal pain.
The default text composition mode is already set to Markdown for 12 days. Is this issue predominantly affecting old, existing accounts since before the change, or are new accounts affected as well?
I just replied to another post and noticed that I got switched to using the rich text editor automatically. I did not chose this option on my own. It was easy to switch back, but that might be what happened to these other people. They don’t even realize that they’ve switched.
It would also explain why my garuda-inxi didn’t look right last time…
That was exactly my experience. But that was a while ago, right at the beginning of the change. I had no idea why the usual formatting wasn’t working. I wondered if my browsers were broken. I tested three different ones
It was only when @SGS pointed out the change to me that I understood why this was happening.
The fact that the default setting doesn’t seem to apply to all users can only be due to Discourse. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.
