That’s really odd (and first time for me…). It seems the old kernel was not removed, for some crazy reason…
Look for other menu entries in grub menu and try them. You may be booting to the old kernel, which should possibly be incomplete
This could be a sign of some required modules are not properly loaded. Use the fallback kernel entry to try pass through.
In any case, you should be able to boot into a snapshot and try to not make the same mistake (if one was done), or be more cautious with system administration. Systems don’t break all of a sudden…
But fallback did not seem to work after the update for some reason and i had to restore a old snapshot. I am not sure what to do now since update just keeps breaking it.

Please also post systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service
This seems to be the problem in my opinion.
Have you tried to apply the tutorial posted by @BluishHumility , especially the sudo dkms autoinstall part and check of relevant logs?
