Raptor Lake (i7-1360p) no audio

I just thought I would post this here in case anyone else had a similar issue?

LG Gram 2023 16" 2-in-1 with Intel i7-1360p CPU and integrated Iris Xe GPU, Raptor Lake audio.

issue is no audio... following errors:

From some research, some folks think it is fixed in kernel 6.5, but not sure. I tried mainline 6.5 and issue is still present.

Did you install flatpak?
There were updates today alsa and pipewire, did it work before?

Did you check if settings changed?
Or

Enable service in terminal

systemctl enable --now pipewire.service

BTW, I have sound.

systemctl --user status pipewire.service pipewire.socket

Hmmm... this is a new machine and first time running garuda linux on it...

[🔴] × sudo systemctl enable --now pipewire.service
Failed to enable unit: Unit file pipewire.service does not exist.

Next, I tried this and rebooted:

 ╭─jsauer@hyprgram in ~ as 🧙 took 31ms
[🔴] × systemctl --user enable --now pipewire.service
Created symlink /home/jsauer/.config/systemd/user/default.target.wants/pipewire.service → /usr/lib/systemd/user/pipewire.service.
Created symlink /home/jsauer/.config/systemd/user/sockets.target.wants/pipewire.socket → /usr/lib/systemd/user/pipewire.socket.

Now I see it is enabled, but still no sound and still showing module load error:

 ╰─λ systemctl --user status pipewire.service pipewire.socket

and in the volume control GUI, I see audio equalizer moving when playing a youtube video, but still no sound.

There are more settings, check input output, config.

Right.. I cropped for brevity... but I have basically the same output as you have.

I see yours is set to headphones... mine is set to Speaker. So, I tried using headphones and I do indeed get audio via the headphones, but not via the Speaker.

Machine is set to dual boot Win 11... in Windows, Speaker works fine, so I know the speaker hardware works.

I'm basically stumped.... but thanks for your post, I can at least use headphones as a work-around for now.

Sorry, but sound work here with speaker too.
Sad thing, maybe someone else can help other than to say it works for him.

I think you are affected by this old but still open kernel bug:

yup, that definitely looks like it. thanks.

I tried to capture the hda verbs being used by Windows to initialize the speakers, but was unable to capture any buffer dumps from the qemu VM that was running Win11.

I updated the ticket with my efforts, hopefully I’ll get some additional tips that will help.

OK, I was able to get sound working! I had to modify qemu to capture the hda-verb info being sent from the Win11 VM. Only one file (hw/vfio/common.c) needs to be modified. Once that was done, used the realtek verb tools to narrow down the captured verbs to the verbs needed to initialize the speakers (basically, the first 2380 verbs captured).

I guess it could be narrowed down even more?

For now, as part of my login script, I simply use the realtek verb tools to apply the verbs. I’ve created a public repo to hold my scripts, steps, etc. at:

Regards.
