Question about when the next Garuda release will be

Sorry to ask but I’d like to know specifically if it boots into the ISO and one can go through the install then just can’t get to the desktop after install of or if it never boots the ISO? Thanks

That a shame. My current installations, both about 14 months old, were via Ventoy and it worked perfectly. I still have the Ventoy volume on a USB stick

I got the first situation you mentioned, not being able to get to the desktop after install, but it was on a VM, got test it on bare metal still.

I ask cause I’m starting to lean towards this being part of the kernel issue rather than a Ventoy issue. I’m responding to a member of another forum and from what they’re seeing make me think kernel instead of Ventoy.

The ISO boots fine and the live environment is normal, but the installation fails. The specific error message is “bad unpackfs configuration”.

The installation succeeds normally with the same ISO if you use something besides Ventoy, for example dd or cat.

Sorry to budge in, but I would suggest changing the post title, as it is not really indicative of what is being discussed here. Just my 2 cents.

Good point. I’ve changed it to something that is hopefully less confusing.

I just recently installed from a portable ssd with ventoy installed on two different pc’s using dragonized KDE without issue. It was 240428

Yes, the old ISO from April that you are using is not affected by the Ventoy issue. It is only the newer ISOs (from the builds URL) where a Ventoy installation will fail.

My understanding based on a conversation with the team is either Ventoy will need to publish an update to address the issue, or our next release will no longer be compatible with Ventoy.

I’ll be happy to volunteer as a tester for a new ISO build. I currently use Garuda KDE Dr460nized on my desktop (AMD CPU/GPU - Ryzen 5 5600G CPU, Radeon RX 5500 GPU) and have it installed on my Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 as well.
