QML Error kde settings

This might be more a kde forum question but, It looks like arch didn’t package a few QML files again for 6.1. but a few things in settings are showing the error below. firewalld works from cmd line but the settings gui app is broken.

I know there is a kde bug report about the system settings crashing if you just randomly overly click options on the left but this is not that.

I was wondering if anyone remembered that kde pkg that has or fixes this as i cant remember the name or topic i found it on when kde 6 first came out.

Looks like its being talked about here

an the kde bug report here 488326 – After update to KF 6.3, many systemsettings pages of Plasma 6.0.90 show an error message they need more info so if you have any

~Update~ the bug has been moved to here 487904 – Stuff using Kirigami InlineMessage and PlaceholderMessage fail to load with error `Cannot assign object of type \"Action\" to property of type \"Action_QMLTYPE_72*\" as the former is neither the same as the latter nor a sub-class of it" ` there has been some more work done hopefully a fix out soon

I saw this reported on reddit as well. It also happens to me with the firewall module and desktop effects.

Well i solved it at least for now

First go into /home/elite/.cache/systemsettings/
Remove qmlcache and qtpipelinecache-x86_64-little_endian-lp64
then run these might be able to so it as one command i was testing to see what would work

paru -S knewstuff --overwrite "*"
paru -S kirigami --overwrite "*"
paru -S qt6-declarative --overwrite "*"

After this an re-opening setting. Firewalld an others were back at least for now. looks like kde is working on a real fix.

I cant say 100% this will fix the issue though so ill update later if i find anything

mmm after a reboot back to square one so ya stumped lol

I can’t confirm it.

I’m definitely doing something wrong…

I’m so bored with my Linux now. Out of frustration that it doesn’t develop a life of its own every day, I even installed unstable versions - and even those run stable :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

lol its best when things are boring, but yea it looks pretty random for some after a crash its fixed other its other settings in the list that are acting up like displays an such but they work fine with a right click from the desktop. but yea its beyond me at this point lol

Looks like there was a Kwin update today,
just garuda-update
an reboot an looks like the problem is solved

looks like clicking on mouse & trackpad will break it again. to fix log out then back in. at least for now if you dont need to don’t go in the mouse settings page

None of these solutions work for me.
The actual fix in the bug report, as stated by Nate Graham there and on his blog, is to delete the qml cache in ~/.cache. This also did not work for me. I’m just waiting for 6.1.1 that is supposed to fix it.

That fix got debunked last night. As I stated its still pretty much broken the bug report here 488326 – After update to KF 6.3, many systemsettings pages of Plasma 6.0.90 show an error message follow to see whats going on with it as its still in 6.1.1 as the unstable testers have said.

That explains why the “fix” Nate mentioned didn’t work, haha.

Yea its just a sit a wait they are working on it, kinda bug

Right. Good thing I don’t need the particular modules for the time being.

what color pack is it to get the terminal font color like that

This is not a color pack, this is lolcat…or rather c-lolcat.

Install with:

sudo pacman -S c-lolcat

You can pipe many things to lolcat, for example:

garuda-inxi | lolcat

Sorry for the off-topic question, what window decoration is that in the screenshot?

Off-topic answer: Jolly-Blur-Aurorae.

But that doesn’t help against KDE Plasma issues any more than lolcat does

It did not do the job for me either, so I went ahead and wiped the full .cache. Deleting something in there seemingly did it. :person_shrugging:

I understand completely.

I took it a step further & installed Windows 11.

Now I have a clean, fresh Arch + Plasma installation to look forward to.

Suddenly, my outlook has improved!

I deleted tons of stuff in the cache folder after reading several theories of possible solutions and none of them worked.

Now I just checked again and it’s fixed. So maybe an update fixed it or a reboot.

the issue is still not 100% fixed so just wait on upstream. if yo go into mouse an trackpad an then go to a affected setting it will come back. You can try this but it didn’t do much for me but allow me to not have to log out to reset the settings back to normal
