Purpose of the Asian fonts package

Hey Garuda ,

I have identified the source of the excruciating ttf-google-fonts-git package, it indirectly came from Garuda’s asian-fonts package, from lohit-fonts in particular. I removed the asian-fonts package and afterwards removed the google fonts manually. Bauh didn’t show the Chaotic-AUR version of ttf-google-fonts-git as installed.

I have not actually used any Asian fonts since I installed Garuda but I wonder, don’t systems come with Asian font ability by default? What is the purpose of the asian-fonts package?

Thank you.

It Is a meta package including the fonts packages in depends here:

Yes, I have seen that but when I installed it during my original Garuda setup, it sounded like it provides Asian letter support. That seems to be wrong though. It’s a baggage.

You can change that package to include
Noto fonts only with the fontconfig

Like below

The Noto language did not depend on the asia package and is installed on my system. Asian letters like Indian ones are supported on my Garuda installation. But thanks for the info.
