But, again, Garuda is not Arch. I keep forgetting many distributions don’t allow their users that much freedom of choice (you get any color you want, as long as it’s black).
In Arch, we only install the drivers necessary to one system. But Garuda has to accommodate many systems. Perforce, you get shotgunned things that would otherwise be unnecessary.
WHY a distribute would choose drivers that might help year-2011 Gen. 2 Intel instead of letting their few users install them, and risking video corruption for everyone else , then offloads them for nearly everybody is a question for the ages (not me).
Modesetting for Intel-only has been de rigueur since 2018! Let’s try to Welcome Garuda to the year 2024!
It is definitely no longer a dependency of garuda-video-linux-config, nor is it included by default by any other means that I am aware of. Anyone who has it installed could probably lose it just by wiping their orphans.
Yeah, well I apologize to you for my hot-headed outburst. I apologize also to @dr460nf1r3, @SGS, @tbg and everyone else responsible for Garuda Linux. Yesterday I felt ashamed, and realized how much my feline matriarch Pyewacket’s death has affected me. She helped keep me sane when my wife was on life support in ICU for 23 days and I felt anything but that way.
She died on New Year’s Day. The Humane Society was not open. I had to help her pass. Pye please forgive me. God please forgive me.
I am so sorry! That is…I don’t know what to say, that is tragic and heartbreaking.
I think you are over-apologizing for your comment about the package. I doubt anyone was offended by what you said or anything like that. It was perhaps a colorful way of saying the package should not be installed by default…but compared to some of your forum commentary it was positively tame.
Anyway, what you said was totally correct: it should not be installed by default, just for the very few Garuda Linux users who are driving a second- or third-gen Intel rig (I’m going to guess maybe like ten people ). It was just a weird fluke mixup that caused it to be added back in to garuda-video-linux-config after all this time.
I really am sorry to hear about your cat, that is so awful and my heart goes out to you.
I don’t want to be disrespectful, but I can’t classify your text. They wrote: “She died in New Year’s Day”. So your wife is died. If your cat had died, it would have to say: “It was died”.
Please help me to understand.
She was my cat. My beautiful Pye. I would call this a translation error. I hope. Otherwise it would be disrespectful. To who? To Pyewacket, my cat. But I know that is not what you mean.
A cat will definitely be a “she” if it is a female cat.
In English, “he” or “she” is not used only for people, but also animals if you know the sex, or even other things if people “decide” they have a gender. For example, it is very common for people to refer to their car as “she” or “her”.
I may be misunderstanding the statement, but I think it is very common in many languages for animals and objects to be referred to by a gender.
OT I have totally hijacked this thread. Was it solved? Oh yeah, I see it is.
@Sunda-Spirit, it is in my opinion completely a societal viewpoint. But I believe everyone would agree that giving succor to a suffering animal can only be just. I’m 71. I’ve had to do hard things. In my culture, a man must be able to shoot his own horse. That’s the way I was raised in Dodge City, Kansas.
