Problem updating AUR packages

running garuda-update -a did a lot of things, i just mindlessly confirmed

but running paru ends with another dependency error:

Have you ever kept your AUR packages up to date with garuda-update -a?

I hope that’s a joke. Do you actually know what you are doing?

Open /etc/makepkg.conf with an editor, for example with micro:

sudo micro /etc/makepkg.conf

Scroll down to the “OPTIONS” section:

OPTIONS=(strip docs !libtool !staticlibs emptydirs zipman purge debug lto)

and put a “!” before debug, like this:

OPTIONS=(strip docs !libtool !staticlibs emptydirs zipman purge !debug lto)

then save with Ctrl + S and close with F10.

Then try again:

garuda-update -a

mostly i just use “upd” for the updates, but also sometimes “garuda-update”, “garuda-update remote” or “garuda-update remote fix” and i think i also have used “garuda update -a” sometimes in the past, but i cannot really tell the difference

well, party that is, partly that isn’t  i do read of course and try to get a glimps of that has to do something with that what im actually doing, but to be honest, no not a clue, im just learning by doing and trusting you guys that nobody will shoot my system:grimacing:

now its doing a LOT , but still with some error messages

System updated! 🐧

Read this again…:

That’s what happens when you don’t update the AUR packages for ages.
Now it’s a classic dependency hell. Do you realize that you’ve brought this on yourself?
And this has nothing to do with the topic about the OBS issue…

Try to remove pyside2…maybe it would make sense to remove all AUR packages and then reinstall each one individually…

okay, well, i do understand that it is my fault for not understanding linux so good and just jumping in.
But to my reading, that wiki says, that garuda-update is the prefered option to use, and it doesn’t says anywhere that this option wont update AUR-packages, despite its checking AUR-packages first thing you run it ?!?
to me, all those parameters were for a special occasion where you might want to update only AUR and nothing else or something like that…
I mean this

: Paketdatenbanken werden synchronisiert …
garuda ist aktuell

well, removing with octopi has worked. Is there a list where i can check what is AUR and something different?
would it help to use the garuda assistant for that?
or would it help to run a garuda-update remote reinstall ?

Read this again carefully: Garuda Update - Usage
or even easier:

garuda-update -h

chaotic-aur is a Garuda Linux “own” repository. Take a look here:

And this is the AUR: Arch User Repository - ArchWiki

octopi → View → Repository → AUR.
Edit: or via pacman:

pacman -Qm

i read it 5 times now

Simply use garuda-update or update in your shell of choice. Both commands do the same thing. Additionally, the following parameters are available:

and still thinking that i simply have to use garuda-update and that the parameters are additional to the command and not referring to additional updates i’m supposed to run (the only hint might be to word, that i have to run it after the systemupdate…)

you mean this

- Package related hotfixes such as conflicts and other issues are automatically resolved after they have been approved by the developers.

?

yes, by now i figured that there is a difference, just thought that is a name like any other  , but dont want to brag about, just saying it might be helpful to newbs to communicat a bit more clear, that it might be necessary to run additional updates or that the garuda-update is not covering up all programs installed …
Like a little reminder at the end of the update
System updated! 🐧 please note that you might have to run upd -a to keep programs not supported by us up to date aswell"

thanks, will check and deinstall-install them tomorrow

The garuda-update (or update or upd is all the same) covers the following repositories by default: garuda, core, extra, multilib and chaotic-aur.

To update packages from the AUR repository at the same time with the system update, garuda-update -a is required.

This is also stated in the Garuda Linux Wiki:

Usage

Simply use garuda-update or update in your shell of choice. Both commands do the same >thing. Additionally, the following parameters are available:

Parameter Environment variable Description
--aur/-a UPDATE_AUR=1 Update AUR packages via paru/yay after system update.

and in the garuda-update help:

garuda-update -h
Garuda Update is Garuda Linux' preferred update solution.
The update script allows Garuda Linux to apply certain hotfixes and update automations for a smoother experience.

Usage:
garuda-update [options] -- [extra pacman parameters]

–aur/-a -> Update AUR packages via paru/yay after system update (UPDATE_AUR=1)

Or in short: always use garuda-update -a when AUR packages are installed.

Seems it needs more. It is very well explained.

He can’t

Just edit the config like the wiki explained

sudo micro /etc/garuda/garuda-update/config

to

#SKIP_MIRRORLIST=1
UPDATE_AUR=1

Done. No -a needed anymore.
