Hello, I want to fully switch to Garuda. However, my Age of Empires series was purchased through the Microsoft Store. I play them without issues on Windows 11 using the Xbox Games program. Is there a chance to play these on Garuda? Because my games are not on Steam or Epic Games. If this is possible, it would be truly great.
No. Only via cloud/browser, and that’s hardly playable in terms of performance.
Age of empires is awesome.
The definitive edition is dirt cheap from third party websites. I’ve seen it as low as 2 bucks.
If you own both CDs: AoE II
and Conqueros Extension
, and install winetricks, and playonlinux in addition to wine, you can play AoE.
My recommendation: https://play0ad.com/
sudo pacman -S 0ad
That would work if it wasn’t bought digitally on the Microsoft store. It’s impossible to run MS store games on Linux (UWP) it’s heavily reliant on the windows infrastructure.
AoE2 works great through Steam, including online matches. I haven’t heard of a way to get stuff from the Microsoft Store running though.
That being said, I agree with @Sunda-Spirit that 0AD is a great RTS replacement. I genuinely prefer it over AoE. It’s totally free and is available for Windows or Linux. I’d give it a try on Windows before making the switch.
Since discovering 0ad, I’ve lost interest in AoE II.
But still, AoE runs on Garuda. I’ve tested it myself.
