Pitivi does not start anymore

Dear all,

My pitivi video editor (extra/pitivi 2023.03-7) software does not start anymore, I get the following bash output:

ERROR - The following hard dependencies are unmet:
==================================================
- Peas not found on the system
Missing soft dependency:
- cvtracker GStreamer element not found on the system
    -> enables object tracking

I uninstalled the package and tried the package from AUR

yay -S pitivi-git

Unfortunately I get the same error message above when trying to start it.

Maybe someone has an idea on how to fix that problem. :yellow_heart:

optional dependencies : install python-librosa + gst-plugin-opencv if it´s not installed, perhaps then ?
to read for dependencies

You stay on xfce … some problems we had with Gnome/Wayland + custom cursor themes.

Thanks a lot for your answer.
I installed gst-plugin-opencv, python-librosa was already installed.

Now if I want to start it only this error remains:

pitivi
ERROR - The following hard dependencies are unmet:
==================================================
- Peas not found on the system

I assume by Peas they mean the libpeas library.

I have both of them installed (it didnt worked with extra/libpeas so I also installed extra/libpeas-2):

extra/libpeas 1.36.0-7 [installed]
    GObject Plugin System
extra/libpeas-2 2.0.7-1 [installed]
    GObject Plugin System

What do you mean by that? :slight_smile:

Some time ago, pitivi could not start if you had inside gnome customer icons instead of default icons from adwaita. (wayland session)

  • Deinstall the git version → reboot (to be safe) → install pitivi default with all deps
  • reinstall libppeas

Start pitivi over Konsole and then ?

So I ran the following commands:

yay -Rns pitivi-git
reboot
sudo pacman -S pitivi
sudo pacman -S --overwrite "*" libpeas

‘Fun fact’: sudo pacman -Rns libpeas failed due to the fact it is used by pitivi ¯_(ツ)_/¯

During the reinstallation of libpeas the following output caught my eye:

Package "python-abydos" has files in directory "/usr/lib/python3.12" that are ignored by the current Python interpreter

The package is now reinstalled, since pacman -Ss libpeas gives the following output:

extra/libpeas 1.36.0-7 [installed]
    GObject Plugin System

So I guess if the status is set to [installed] the installation was successful after all?

However… if I run pitivi in the bash it still gives me:

ERROR - The following hard dependencies are unmet:
==================================================
- Peas not found on the system

Add-On:
I just need a simple video snipping tool for work. If you or somebody else can suggest a tool that work on Garuda, I’d be happy to try that one. It doesn’t necessarily have to be Pitivi. :slight_smile:

A simple video snipping tool… perhaps gnome-screenshot ? (but dependance only with gnome, not shure)
A simple video snipping tool for zero ..difficult
Kazam, of course Gimp with plugins… other.. ?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I decided to go with this tool :

sudo pacman -S kdenlive

(The package from chaotic-aur did not work, I guess the reason is that I am not using KDE).

My problem is solved for now.
Maybe pitivi will work again after some regular updates :slight_smile:
