Piper problems and some other tips

Hey guys, this is my first post here. Yesterday, I decided to switch from Windows 11 to Garuda once and for all, to combine my studies with the games I play (I went with the Dragonized Gaming version and pulled the BlackArch repo). I’m trying to get the basics and essentials working first, and I need some help and tips with a few things that I’ve already searched and didn’t found anything much helpful:

Piper - I have a Logitech G403 Hero. Piper came pre-installed by default, and when I opened it, it already recognized my mouse model. I can change the DPIs just fine, but when I try to remap buttons, it doesn’t recognize them. The mouse scroll wheel is broken, and I usually need to set ‘scroll up’ on the middle button click and ‘scroll down’ on the DPI button. Anyone know what could be going on?

GPU - Right now, I have an RTX 3050 8GB, and I’m noticing some strange performance issues compared to what I had on Windows. Is this normal, or should I expect Nvidia cards to have some problems? My wife has an RX 5700XT on her PC with Windows, and she’s not happy with the issues her card has on Windows. If I find out AMD cards perform better in this situation, I might swap with her.

Keyboard - I’m Brazilian, and I’m used to the ABNT2 keyboard layout, which I couldn’t find in the available keyboard options on the OS. Only generic layouts related to the region are available. If anyone can help with this, I’d really appreciate it.

I’m really enjoying Garuda overall. Aside from these issues (which I think everyone faces during the transition), I think it’s a great system. I’ve finally realized that it’s possible to break free from Windows and enjoy much more flexible and fun systems.

If i did something wrong on this topic pls let me know and sorry in advance.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

Possibly focus on one issue per topic, as this will help current helpers and especially future “searchers” in the forum.
For piper, try to give a look at the issue list of the upstream site (if this is the package, I have no idea). E.g. (but not limited to):

And I see there is also a training guide…
For the keyboard, give a look here:

Yep:

It’s all in the template you deleted before posting.

Bad idea, blackarch causes a lot of issues. If you don’t need it, remove it. It makes more sense to install the required penetration-test applications (packages) separately.

Good idea.

Welcome to the community

Hey there, thanks for the clarification, I will look around with this link you provided me, now I can at least have a clue about what’s going on, btw here is my garuda-inxi

Yes I’ve read the template, but I didn’t expected that those “other issues” I mentioned could escalate too much, as I just wanted some tips about it, not thinking that it could be complex problems, I’m sorry about that and I will not mess around on my next topics, also thank you for the tips there. I will proceed to delete blackarch and post some updates.

Oh no, by reading my garuda-inxi I just found out it installed on MBR for some weird reason, because Win11 was running on GPT as well, but I believe Windows messed up something when I made the bootable drive on Rufus, I’m going to wipe all so and will be back with results :frowning:

If you want to reinstall anyway, take the opportunity to change your BIOS to UEFI-only (it is currently set to CSM):

hello rikz and welcome in the Forum,

Piper:

i dont have this Hardware for testing! Also it is for a beginner not to suggest if you dont know what youre doing at all. Many people have this issues you said in the description.I found this but not recommed when not known troubleshootings.

GPU:
Short from me:
AMD Performing better as Nvidia with a Linux Based Operation System.Nvidia is better on Windows Machine.

Keyboard:
ive seen same in the Layout Options.but i checked the localectl list-keymapsand it is in as br-abnt2.

Ive trying to set in Keyboard Layout in the specific text file to chance the Keymap= . It appears but with an picture with ? and didnt work?(of course reboots)
Did disable those Overwriting on Plasma settings and configured fallback file vconsole to it.It dosnt helped in this way.

May someone as known Coder here can help you more out in this way.
