Pacman, file exist | .bash_profile

Hi, thought the devs and other Qtile users should be aware of this.
On the latest update, I got this:

(20/20) checking for file conflicts                                     [----------------------------------------] 100%
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
garuda-qtile-settings: /etc/skel/.bash_profile exists in filesystem (owned by bash)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

I fixed this by going to /etc/skel and renaming .bash_profile to something else before updating.

Old bash profile
#
# ~/.bash_profile
#

[[ -f ~/.bashrc ]] && . ~/.bashrc
New bash profile
#
# ~/.bash_profile
#

[[ -f ~/.bashrc ]] && . ~/.bashrc
export BROWSER=firedragon
export TERM=alacritty
export MAIL=thunderbird
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME="qt5ct"
export GTK2_RC_FILES="$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0"
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity

export ALTERNATE_EDITOR="micro"
export EDITOR="micro"
export VISUAL="micro"

Considering the contents of old vs. new, this looks pretty safe to do, but correct me if I’m wrong. :slight_smile:

Hope this helps.

For others, they got this “error” can fix it with

sudo pacman -Syu --overwrite '*'

Attention!
Use overwrite only if you know exactly what you are doing :slight_smile:

I noticed a [solution] in the title isn’t what we normally do on the Garuda forums so I originally marked SGS’ response as the solution, but was then informed that it’s actually a quick fix. :sweat_smile:

The solution is in the first post. Please always remember to check your files before you overwrite anything, no matter the approach you take.
