Alright, I'm not a true-newbie, but this seems like it belongs on this category

Upon updating today, I had a warning saying

warning: directory permissions differ on /usr/share/
filesystem: 777 package: 755

That was on 90% of the packages out of a 115 of them.

Should I be concerned? Should I do something? It wasn't an error warning per se and the update went all the way through okay

I couldn't really find any recent stuff related to that on the internet, only thing I found was a bug on some arch repo that a single person noticed on 2015, which is like ancient and localized on terms of the arch way of life xD

the real question is, why your /usr/share has 777 as perms - mine only has 644, but I would also accept 755. Did you mess with chmod at some point?

Anyways, you can probably ignore these issues, but if this annoys you too much, you could take a look at pacrepairfile

Because I only have weird bugs, and people with weird bugs usually have them because they messed with their systems, people often say I must have done something, while the truth is: I don’t even remember how to copy a file on the terminal from a folder to the other xD
I’ve done nothing, I’m innocent, I swear LoL

Oh, thanks then. I also thought 777 was way out of line, but idk what should or not be 777, but if I can ignore this xD I’ll just leave as is then.

777 permissions means that all the users have all the access, read, write and execute to all the files in the given directory. It can be serious security threat. Though, your system will most probably operate smoothly.

I guess what you were trying to do was making changes directly to root partition and followed some online guide and changed permissions of the whole root partition

Please share output of

history | grep chmod

Hm... I don't remember changing my system in that sense
To be honest I was trying to install Houdini and other 3D stuff to work with through their official .sh files (seriously, who does that, just make an app img or smth) and I changed each file's permissions with chmod +x, but I don't think that's what caused this issue? Specially because I ran it on my normal user, not my sudo login.
If it wasn't that, it probably is something I don't even remember then

Here's my regular user history

 history | grep chmod
  465 chmod +x Install_houdini_launcher.sh
  476 chmod +x Maxon_App_3.1_Linux.sh
  477 chmod +x Modo16.0v3_Linux.run
  483 chmod +x realflow
  484 chmod +x realflownode
  485 chmod +x realflownod
  486 chmod +x stitcher

Here's my sudo user history

 history | grep chmod
  360 history | grep chmod

Also it seems like a valid point, I couldn't run any of those script installations through the end, all of them failed before actually installing anything... far as I know ofc

Well. of this too
