I have been an avid Linux user for about ten years now. Arch and OpenSUSE are my personal favorites, but I do love a good Independent Arch Community. There was a small Arch based Community I liked a lot in 2017, but it went the way of the Dodo. I’ve primarily used Tumbleweed since then (if I was computing at all). After some family matters, I kinda packed up and walked away from everything, which invited some nuclear level nonesense into my life. For the now I am AFK except for the Public Library, so most of my time is being bided by reading documentation till the world recorrects itself. Things are starting my Master’s in Cyber Security in October, where you will certainly be hearing more from me. If you want me to look into something, let me know. Mostly I’ve been researching Bare metal systems and Sparse Neural networks, with a dabble here and there into different programming languages( mostly different python libraries as they’re strongly entwined with Transformers). Never been much of a programmer, and that seems silly as an IT guy. Also, if you find yourself bored and I’m online, I usually appreciate the distraction.
Hey @bliindsparrow, welcome to the community! It’s great to see someone with solid experience in Arch and Tumbleweed, both are not for the faint of heart. Your focus on bare metal systems and sparse neural networks sounds interesting; feel free to share your insights when you’re able. I’m also brushing up on Python and security-related topics, so I’d be happy to exchange ideas down the line. Wishing you all the best as you gear up for your Master’s in Cyber Security!
I had built a system in the outer banks, using qtile as a compositor over Dom0 with SUse. I was in the process of setting up Qtile (which was slow because I don’t know Python well). The Idea is a Qubes esque system, where the directories are microVMs instead of partitions, and there is a sort of simple transformer monitoring clients and other instances in a Salt Stack form. Salt is a Debian based network management system. I liked the Idea of Qubes, but I found it kinda clunky. I was originally thinking Qtile would be a good compositor, since libraries like PyTorch are prominent in AI LLM management. However, it lacked the aesthetics I desired, and would be burdensome to any enduser with little to no computer experience. Hyprland has some Python compatibilities with added features that might make it more appetizing for newbies to give a shot at. I got chatGPT to generate some IP Isolation Scripts and Quarantine/analysis protocols with Falco and Kiabana. Whenever I get a Computer to play with I’ll be able to dive back into it.
