I clean the thread

If you’re a beginner like me and using the garuda-update command fails like this: error: failed retrieving file ‘kwidgetsaddons-6.17.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst.sig’ from it.mirrors.cicku.me : Operation too slow. Less than 1 byte/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
warning: failed to retrieve some files
error: failed to commit transaction (failed to retrieve some files)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

  1. Don’t panic
  2. Look for information in the community
  3. Try repeating garuda-update, because it worked for me

For the Garuda Linux team, I apologize for entering the wrong category.

hahahah why am i here

We have no control over third party mirrors.

when Fire dragon 12 public release?

That’s for the fire dragon developers to answer, but probably when it’s ready:tm:

Is there a Discourse reason that the old way cant be set as default? I can only see the issue popping up forever. haha

A bit after floorp 12 is out i would say.

I only changed it once, and now it’s the default setting. So for me, it’s Markdown with the preview window.

I know people don’t read but maybe add a note to the issues and assistance template near the vary top. Maybe flashing in red XD

Sorry to budge in a little late. But isn´t that the BIG question(s). If there was a mass exodus, we get a large amount of people, and then the whole forum will “change”. If it´s from Win to Garuda, even I could start answering questions. And I´m not really educated enough to instruct children to tie their shoes. Do we welcome them with Tutorials, wikis and a whole lot of How-to´s? Oooor do we keep pushing the: -”You can read? You can learn on your own."-Arch-attitude. I´m not supporting becoming Reddit. (Always read slightly intoxicated and always assume everybody is out to get you, despite the fact that you have been proven non paranoid.) Just saying it´s going to be a whole new group. We need to take care of them in a different-ish way?

I’m rather old school being an old dude, I can’t grasp the latest generation’s lack of self motivation. In my day it was a point of pride to be up early in the AM to milk the cows and ride my bike to do my paper route (5 miles on bike) as a school kid. When I got older if you were a man you were expected to know how to do your own tune up and oil change on a car. I was by no means a mechanic but I could replace the carb and an induction manifold on a V8. Guys were expected to be somewhat self reliant back then.

It’s rather pathetic IMO how little initiative the younger generation has these days. Personally, I intend to be polite, but stay the course with the next big wave of Windows refugees. They need to learn to do for themselves, you can’t expect everyone else to carry you through life.

I’m in the camp of you have to do the bare minimum. You also at the start if on a arch based distro be ready to at least 2 times break something. Though the goal should be how long it takes to get there. If never good, if not its the arch way. If a user wants the hand holding that’s where open suse fedora or heaven forbid immutables are for.
This might all sound harsh but in most schools your taught how to problem solve. So looking for what the “Subject” of the error is an fist looking it up so you at least know what it is is step one still cant figure it out ask on a forum and explain that you looked it up or at the least what you understand yourself what the error means even if wrong its fine its how we learn. An most will be willing to help. If instead you go to a LLM don’t waste my time. The questioner wont learn and I’ll have wasted my time skimming llm slop.

It ultimately makes me open posts less often based of the title. I have to question will i waste my time with llm slop or someone not wanting to look up and try something before asking. Demanding a magical fix in one post. Example: My computer broke and then it went black." Where is the I was doing X. Then Z happened. Though rude, if the person is not willing to use a normal thought process as to how they would solve a problem, I no longer what to help them. There are exceptions, in the metal health and ability area. Though for all others you don’t go to a car shop and say my car broke and expect them to think that’s enough to fix it. So give some more details.

Rant over haha.

Example my first real garuda question post on something I knew nothing about Incorrect Graphics driver - llvmpipe I was so green back then XD

It is super rare that you ever see someone told to RTFM, on the Garuda forum, (as that is considered rude). That said, simply posting a link to the Arch Wiki is considered acceptable here. That’s not being rude, in many cases that’s simply the shortest distance between two points. New users need to learn that the Arch wiki should be their first stop for information when using an Arch based distribution.

Not everyone understands the dry technical explanations that the Arch wiki is famous for. However, if the user posts the link to the Arch wiki info and asks for clarification then they get bonus points for trying. The important thing is that they demonstrate that they at least made an effort to try and help themselves. Showing a little initiative goes a long ways when asking a stranger for help.
