Nvidia graphics card not showing up in lspci

I just recently installed Garuda, but unfortunately i cant use my dedicated GPU. I've got 2 GPUs installed on my laptop an AMD ATI 04:00.0 Cezanne (according to neofetch) and a nvidia Gtx 3060. I know that the nvidia card causes many problems, since I've once setup an arch installation bare bones but it always has shown up in

lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

Now i've tried to install the nvidia driver which didn't work either on the linux-lts, linux or linux-zen kernel and then I've tried out nvidia-lts and nvidia-dkms on all the kernels mentioned before. But in none of them lspci printed the nvidia card.

This is the output of lspci -k on the 5.13.9-zen1-1-zen kernel with the nvidia-dkms driver:

Any Ideas how to fix this?

This is the only reason why i'm considering switching back to windows and I would like stay on garuda

Welcome

sgs@i3 ~]$ lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

I install Garuda and it work out of the box. No need to install.
Do you use free driver in grub?

No proprietary

I had installed garuda about a month ago and back then the gpu was detected but I couldn’t use it properly with xorg.

And just now i’ve tried out a garuda installation on a usb (not a live usb) and there the nvidia card is not recognized either.

I install Garuda and it work out of the box. No need to install.

Which kernel version and nvidia driver version is installed on your system? Maybe the version that I have is mall functioning.

Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GA106 [GeForce RTX 3060] vendor: ASUSTeK driver: nvidia
  v: 470.57.02 alternate: nouveau,nvidia_drm bus-ID: 0b:00.0 chip-ID: 10de:2503
  class-ID: 0300

It works on all kernel I use, linux-cacule, linux-zen and 5.13.9-189-tkg-bmq x86_64.
New: 5.13.9-2-cacule_v3 x86_64

Check your BIOS settings for the mode used about GPUs. If it’s on something like “auto” or similar, change it to Both GPUs active (however it is named).

Also, post info from your system and journal relevant messages:

 inxi -SMGCIsa
journalctl --no-pager --no-hostname -g nvidia
journalctl --no-pager --no-hostname -b -g "card0|drm|vga"

Read journal filtering options (man journalctl) and try also your vga ports, like HDMI-1, eDP1 etc (don’t search for a simple HDMI, since it has also audio results and are a lot…)

Unfortunately there is not option to dis- or enable it in the bios

inxi -SMGCIsa
journalctl --no-pager --no-hostname -g nvidia
journalctl --no-pager --no-hostname -b -g "card0|drm|vga"

Have you checked the manual?
How sure are you about there is no option?

Your logs show you have done a lot install/uninstall/setup concerning nvidia.

I suggest you completelly uninstall all proprietary nvidia packages, including the one that you cloned/built manually in your $HOME folder and only install the nouveau package xf86-video-nouveau.
Reboot and check if the card rises from the dead :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Have you asked for help at the forum? Post a link to your topic.

Still not working, i've uninstalled all packages of drivers of nvidia (except that I don't have a manually build one) then restarted.

lspci still output the same as before so I uninstalled nouveau and rebooted again but I still can't find the nvidia card.

Not much info.

I don’t think I can follow. What do you think this means?
Maybe you mean this

which was triggered from your logs.

Aug 09 23:32:04 sudo[26617]: gianl : TTY=pts/1 ; PWD=/home/gianl ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/pacman --up
grade -- /home/gianl/.cache/paru/clone/nvidia-utils-beta/nvidia-utils-beta-470.57.02-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

I guess it was paru in cache. :see_no_evil: Anyway, that was a beta version.

Your card exists and your system can see it.
But some setting/configuration/rule forces the system to unload nvidia drivers.

Look in all configuration places/files for such settings.

/etc/modules-load.d./*.conf
/etc/modprobe.d./*.conf
/etc/mkinitcpio.conf
/etc/udev/rules.d/*.rules
/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/*.rules

and maybe more, as well as in systemd units.

You seem to have a broken configuration, so I can’t help more than that.
Inspect your journal more carefully and get info that would point to something useful.
Only you can do that.
I don’t like to say it, but your other choice is to re-install.
Or maybe some other Garuda guru can pop-up here and do some magic

In case I have to reinstall, I’ve got my /home directory on a different partition exactly for this case, can I just use the partition again without wiping it, or might there be some configuration in my home directory that causes the problems?

I’ve never done this before but it should be possible to use the old partition without any other problems occurring right?

Not much info.

lspci -k gave me the same output as before

And is this the only info you can provide? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I would suggest to NOT use the same partition initially. If all goes well, you may either merge the old home (if it is on btrfs) to the new system, or symlink your data folders to your new home
folder.

I think Calamares on Garuda ISO is using one btrfs partition and creates the rest of the subvolumes, but I have never tried the manual method, so I don’t really have an answer. :man_shrugging:

The gpu was actually a problem with windows which disabled it in such a wired way that not even the bios could see it any more. The solution (at least for my asus laptop) was this program luckily asus provides tools for linux that let you reenable your gpu. Unfortunately if you enable your gpu after installing garuda your login manager will only show a black screen when you switch to nvidia mode. But just enter your password blindly and KDE Plasma should start normally.

I actually had to reinstall garuda because I made a mistake while messing around with my root partition (DON'T DO THAT) . And after the install the optimus manager was preinstalled and setup as usual and everything worked just fine (except some minor issuse with latte that the display names weren't the same after switching the gpu mode).

Just another of of an endless list of shenanigans that M$ perpetuates on unsuspecting Linux users.

Another thing you can try when Windows has messed with proper hardware detection is to do the following.

  • Fully power down your computer.

  • Remove all power sources including any battery packs.

  • Hold the power button down for 20 seconds to fully drain any residual power.

  • Power up without any battery pack if using a laptop.

  • Sometimes resetting the bios back to the factory default is also required.

Windows, the gift that just keeps on giving. With friends like that, who needs enemies?
