nVidia DP over Type-C not working

Hey all, I've been trying to figure out this issue for quite some time now. My laptop has DisplayPort over Type-C capability, but that's hooked up to my nVidia GPU on my laptop and won't give any output to any monitors, even through a Type-C hub that outputs HDMI. I've been trying to figure out how to get the nVidia GPU to drive the external Type-C monitor but without success.

I've been redirected to edit some nVidia power management files - not sure how many I've tried to find and edit, but I know some were in the /etc/rules.d/ directory.

xrandr -q detects my internal laptop display and my AMD-driven HDMI connection, but no DisplayPort through Type-C through my nVidia GPU.

  • ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2019-2020)
  • AMD Ryzen 7 4800H w/ Radeon Graphics
  • nVidia GTX 1660 Ti Mobile

You may need to set the NVIDIA GPU as the main output, e.g. in the UEFI switch from switchable to discrete graphics.

Man, how I envy the ROG gaming laptops.
In all seriousness, this ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2019-2020) doesn't have such a switch in the UEFI settings, annoyingly.

Could this be the issue? The driver seems to be not loaded (N/A), although available (alternate 515.xx+)
Maybe you could try a

sudo dkms autoinstall

and check the logs after the (likely) error?
