NV-RTX: Activating HDR on Wayland Black Screen

Hello folks,

So I love this Linux blend, it’s been my favorite because it just hooks right up for gaming and that AUR packaged proton kicks experimental’s ass. However since switching from AMD to Nvidia (yeah… you know where this is going). I’ve been having nothing but problems on basically any Arch distro of Linux with Garuda working the best.

Anywho, the issue. Before it worked on Wayland fine until I started playing with HDR. Ever since activating it, logging in would produce an eternal black screen of sadness.

Having known the screams of help from the hellfire pit that is NV GPU users on Linux, I am assuming this is a Nvidia GPU driver issue.

Does anyone also have a RTX 4070 Super and know a driver that just kind of works. I know i’m asking if Unicorns exist but I have hope and faith.

This is just kind of ridiculous. I’m 30, and i’ve been hearing about Nvidia GPU issues since I was in middle school. Like I don’t get it, why are they always so trash to use on Linux?

Specs:
OS: Garuda Linux x86_64
Host: B650 PG Lightning
Kernel: 6.10.10-zen1-1-zen
Packages: 1903 (pacman)[stable]
Shell: fish 3.7.1
Resolution: 2560x1440
DE: KDE Plasma 6.1.5
WM: KWin (X11)
WM Theme: Sweet-Dark
Theme: Dr460nized (Sweet) [Qt], Sweet-Dark [GTK2/3]
Icons: BeautyLine [Qt], BeautyLine [GTK2/3/4]
Terminal: konsole 24.8.1
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (16) @ 5.05 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER [Discrete]
Memory: 7531 MiB / 63914 MiB

Monitors:
BenQ 27" 1440P monitor - Displayport
LG 27" 4K Monitor - Displayport
LG 27" 4K Monitor - Displayport

Also when I hook the other two 4K monitors in, it’ll work on both Wayland and X11 and just randomly stop working after like a restart then start working and then stop working and then start working and yeah…

I’m on Linux out of force because my Windows was hacked by a State (via its many, many backdoors) and my Phone hacked by SS7. So i’ve basically had to live the life of a paranoid schizo. I can’t go into why, but there is a reason behind it, it did actually happen as an outside “source” I reported it to had conducted an investigation with me as I wasn’t the only one.

I have the same CPU but an AMD 7800 XT GPU and HDR works and I have never had any form of issue.
Displays via HDMI: LG 34WN650 (DisplayHDR 400 and 2560:1080) and non HDR 1080P.
Kind of floored that linux users buy Nvidia given how much of a blckhead company they are. only recently have they changed in some respects but it still isn’t half of what AMD does.

Cause they only recently started putting real work into the driver. To be honest they only make money on the sever and ML side so stuff like gaming never really mattered to them on linux. Your going to be waiting some years tell its up to snuff. But having a 40 series will play out better for you long term.

Wayland as well right now just isn’t in the best of state. Dev wise. So your at this weird middle ground of good an not so good things. Especially since maintenance wise x11 is basically dead.

once again (1) I have never had any Wayland issue since day one of official release and (2) I have only ever heard of genuine Wayland issues from Nvidia users. You are saying Nvidea has recently (and too recently) decided to stop sucking. I am correctly adding that Nvidea still isn’t contributing what AMD does that allowed week 1 support for AMD GPUs (including keeping up with wayland, HDR etc) that Nvidea even with what they currently release can’t allow.

also one correction: Nvidea issues with basic contribution have been a huge issue in servers for a long time. Linus Torvalds didn’t say “■■■■ Nvidea” over gaming issues. Please stop 8=> riding billion dollar corporations.
