No directx support on Nvidia card with nvidia drivers installed

Hello dear forum members,

I have newly installed garuda linux.

If I want to play some Steam games that require DirectX using Proton, such as Satisfactory or The Witcher 3, the following error message occurs:
"GPU does not meet minimal requirements. Support for DirectX 12 is required."

I have a GTX 1050 Ti, which usually has DirectX 12 support.

I have the proprietary nvidia drivers installed.

I also have a lot of lag / stuttering when playing CS:GO. All solutions I found for this were related to installing the nvidia drivers, but I already have those installed. What do I miss?

Hi there, welcome to the forum!
Just to be sure...
Do you use the proprietary drivers for those games?

Funnily enough, it doesn't even seem that prime-run is installed. The command is not found. With what package does it come?

The package name is nvidia-prime

Forget about it, sorry.
I've just seen you have a desktop, not an Optimus laptop.
That doesn't apply to you, Sorry again...

Okay, I've installed it anyways and nothing changed  . Is there another common solution to this problem?
Thank you for taking the time :+1:

Just install Garuda Linux KDE Dragonized Gaming  and check

You don’t have 2 GPUs, I’m not quite sure why you would need it.

That would seem like it’d be a proton issue? There is no directx on Linux, that’s all handled by the translation layer (wine/proton).

Ok, so I solved it myself:
When installing steam native, it comes with the packages amdvlk and lib32-amdvlk that are somehow executed instead of their nvidia counterparts. I just removed them with pacman and everything worked.

Thank you everyone for you kind attempts at solving my problem!

Is there maybe a way to help prevent something like this from occurring? It sounds like an edge-case situation, but all of the components mentioned seem to be pretty commonly used for any gamer.
