No audio from laptop speakers / headset

I was here on a Discord call, and suddenly I stopped hearing my friend on a call. I tried reconnecting the headset to the laptop, restarting pipewire, connecting another headset, and finally, booting on Windows. The same issue was happening on Windows. When I connect the headset to the laptop, nothing happens, it doesn’t seem it detects the new connected device.

Another strange thing, I can’t hear any audio from the laptop speakers, and it seems the laptop speakers is also not being recognized by the system, because I don’t see any option to select the speakers anymore.

I’m not sure if my audio card is broken or not. I don’t know how to investigate this issue.

After testing a bunch of things, I realized that although the headset does not produce sound when connected directly to the headphone jack of my laptop, when I connect the headset on my ultrawide screen monitor (which is connected to the laptop via HDMI), the audio works perfectly fine.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  1. Verified the headset works with other devices.
  2. Tested with multiple headphones/headsets to rule out device-specific issues.
  3. Checked sound settings and pavucontrol for any muted channels or incorrect configurations.
  4. Used alsamixer to ensure no channels were muted.
  5. Reviewed dmesg and journalctl logs for any obvious errors or warnings upon connecting the headset. But I would appreciate any help to understand better these logs.

Observations:

  • The headset works without issues when connected through the HDMI-connected monitor.
  • No changes are observed in pavucontrol when connecting the headset directly to the laptop.

I’m suspecting this could be a configuration issue or a problem with the laptop’s headphone jack detection. However, I’m not entirely sure how to diagnose this further, especially within the context of Garuda’s audio management setup.

Could anyone provide guidance on how to troubleshoot this issue further or suggest any potential fixes? Any advice on tools or logs that could provide more insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help and support!
