New to the idea of linux

Hello, I’m new to the idea of Linux anything.

I really dont want to be on windows 11 at all, especially after they started bricking SSDs…

Someone on Twitter told me that this version of Linux would let me play games like Final Fantasy 14, Blackmyth Wukong, Clair Obscur Expedition 33, with my nvidia 4070?

Will I have any issues with programs like Clip Studio pro or Epilogue Playback? basically a GB operator to play GB/GBA games.

Will it work with nexus software like with the hyte y70 screen and the wallpaper engine off steam, MSI mystic light?
Would I be able to connect my old SSD with like a USB adapter and move my old files to the new linux SSD?

I want to make sure I dont have any compatibility issues.

Obviously I know I can upgrade to windows 11 and use Raphire to declutter windows and undo that specific update that bricks SSDs before it becomes a problem. But I also want to keep my options open.

Please and thank you for any information that can be provided!

Again I have no experience with Linux at all

Welcome

If you can’t find anyone here who can fulfill all your specific requirements, you should go the Linux route.

Download a Garuda DE that you like, install the programs in question, and test whether they do what you want them to do.

Hi and welcome,

this is a very helpful Forum and most problems got solved . I would say yes test it out like SGS sayed . Your Games can run under linux too i checked the ProtonDB Website.

For GB/GBA games there are few emulators of course they working i use it myself too.

File Transfer should also work i did it many times .

About Clip Studio or MSI mystic light i dont know may some other in the Forum know more about it

Linux isnt Windows but all is a learning by doing :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

psshh there many good yt videos about arch or how to use the Terminal and you can ask of course.

If you dont try you`ll never find out. I use it since few years and dont use Windows anymore just for some stuff that really not work on Any Linux but im sure i will go in future .

Happy learning and have fun. :desert_island:

All I can say is: I came to Garuda for the exact same reason about 18 months ago and got stuck on it immediately; 3 months in I wanted to use it as my daily driver because I enjoyed using it, more than Windows.

However, it is different at its core and it does take some time to learn how to use it, configure things, google for help, get used to new applications, and so on. You have to be willing to invest some time and effort to make the switch.

And then, there’s the last 5% of things, especially games, that simply don’t work. I’ve kept my old Win10 partition around for these rare cases, might actually update it to Win11 soon, but I hate booting it up by now.

Yea I think im a keep a separate drive for windows 10 IoT LTSC incase there are things I cant run. Since windows 10 IoT LTSC is going to be taken care of till 2032 and most games I play support older windows forever especially steam with how long they supported windows 8 lol

I was considering that, but licensing aside (usually only sold in bulk for enterprise) it seems to be really stripped down. Might go with Tiny11 or something like this. Definitely don’t want all bloat and spyware Win11 ships with ootb.

You can buy keys from here and its not hard to get a iot ltse file

With the app openrgb you should have no probs to control your msi stuff.

Alienware metal is tricky, but msi gpu/mb/mouse no prob to control with openrgb + plugins and much better as msi mystic / asus auro sync or gigabytes fusion stuff with M$.
