Hello everyone I’ve been a Linux user full time for over two years and part time for a few years before that. I’m a developer and Linux is OS of choice.
I started on Ubuntu years back. I’ve distro hopped for a while until two years ago when I purchased a Linux Laptop with Kubuntu 22.04.
As the time was approaching to upgrade, I decided I needed a change and went looking for a KDE distro. I live booted about four or five until landing miraculouly on the Garuda Linux page (Thanks Distro Watch!).
Mind officially blown here
So I reformatted and clean installed Garuda Linux dr460nized on October 18th. This was not the best timing as Chaotic-AUR packages changes to infrastructure.
thanks to this amazing forum, I was able to wait it out and was able to proceed and now I have a fully functioning distro.
Kudos to all of you on this forum. This has to be the most comprehensive, active and robust forum I’ve ever seen. I never even had to use AI to assist me with any issues I had. In the odd time I had to Google something, this forum came up right away with the solution I needed.
The UX and Ui on this distro is epic!
Tips to Newbies: If you’re new to Linux, this is a great place to start depending on your pc specs.
Be patient: there is a learning curve . Get comfy with the terminal . I’m new to Arch and Pacman so I bookmarked Pacman Rosetta in the Arch Wiki.
You learn by doing but be careful. I learned by doing. however, keep in mind that venturing in the terminal and typing in commands without understanding what they are for can have catostrophic consequences. I used a lightweighted distro on an older laptop I had and I had to reinstall so many times with no worries about loss of data.
I also used my Mac when I moved over to Linux full time. For me, I had to use my Linux as a daily driver as a developer. So it was crucial that I had a backup just in case as I couldn’t miss deadlines.
Breathe: There are so many times I felt like blasting on a forum out of anger. Take a walk, give yourself a cooldown. We’ve all been there. It’s always better to get your head clear and ask for help by typing a calm and concise email. Also include the garuda-inxi
With that said, I look forward to getting to know you all in this community. Keep up the awesome work!
