i use quick launchers on my panel, but the icons disappear when i hover my mouse above them, only coming back irregularly, at times not at all. This also happens with icon only task manager icons, and system icons.

It happens in both X11 and Wayland, but i want to use X11 for my scripts do not work any longer with Wayland.

How best to proceed?

[EDIT]
i just found out, by accident, after trying a million things, that reloading the plasma shell in a terminal fixed the problem. (i wanted to see if it would give me any errors loading it like that.)

(i did it twice, for the first time i forgot to assign it a pid, so the panel crashed closing the panel pressing ctrl c. So iā€™m not sure what fixed the issue, crashing the plasma shell, or loading it in a terminal.)

All that matters is that it is working fine, and i do not have to repeat the procedure, even after a reboot.

This sounds similar.
